Importing files - .eps specifically

OK, has anyone else tried this. Take an .eps file and use the import icon from the insert toolbar and try to put it in an AD dwg file? According to the Help it's supposed to work. Mine says command not found. Anyone ever tried this? Here's what I want to do. I received a .pdf drawing and would like to bring it into AD, however, the only way I could see was to convert it to .eps and try to import it. Please help, this is making me crazy, is it supposed to work or not?

Jpegs and Tiffs are supposed to go in
seemlessly.  If not then something is wrong with the software.  I use
tiffs all the time to trace drawings.
