Offline activation of subscription standalone license

Offline activation of subscription standalone license

For quite a large number of factories at China, end user computers will not have internet access.

However, the  subscription standalone license now can only be activated online.

It is suggested to allow the offline activation subscription standalone license for these users.

Best Regards, Patrick.

Status changed to: Future Consideration

Hello,

We appreciate the feedback, and we have followed up with the product management team. At this time we don't have a solution for offline use, however the team will take this into consideration in the future. be sure to check the roadmap as we will update that with new features and benefits as they are coming out: admin.autodesk.com/roadmap

Thanks!

Emily

@patrick_lam I'd say it's unlikely as Autodesk needs to check in with the license every now and then to make sure you have a legit license. The only way I could think of that would maintain integrity but also allow this would be to have 30/60/90 day activation codes that you'd generate from your account.

@leowarren34It sounds great if the activation code can be generated from Autodesk Account.

@patrick_lam However this is extremely unlikely as could easily be abused after furter thought.

What would stop a user from using one code multiple times?

Theres no internet so it can't check.

@leowarren34Maybe it is possible if the followings are realized:

- Activation code is hardware-dependent, so that the code can only be used to activate the software at a particular computer.

- Activation code can be generated again only if the last generated code is expired or is returned.

Point 1- What if they use the same hardware across many systems

Point 1b: How would you generate a hardware key for the system without internet access, further more how would you use this to generate an offline code as the key would be extremely long for security.

Point 2: How does the system know if it's returned if it offline, you could just turn back the system clock and indefinitely run the license.

@leowarren34

For point 1: I believe that this is the disadvantage of activating standalone license in offline mode. User should only uses the so generated license on a particular computer. If user wants to switch to another computer, then user has to return the license first, and then generate another license for the new computer.

For point 1b: They can use another computer (which can get access to internet) to generate the license (in a way similar to the network license generation).

For point 2: The software will check to see whether the system of user computer has turned back the system date. If yes, then the software will not run.

As for point 1b, the computer requiring the license would require the internet to generate a hardware key unless native to windows or have an external program

Point 2: Unless there is a reference file then that's not possible even then the reference file could easily be edited.

As mentioned in point 1b, "another" computer will be used to generate the license for activating the software being used at user computer. That is, "another" computer can get access to internet. User computer cannot get access to internet. After generating the license from "another" computer, user can copy the generated license (key or file) to user computer for activating the software.

For point 2, as far as I know, some other CAD/CAM software can check this out from Windows system.
