Path to downloads

Hi,

Autodesk Desktop App had a setting to define a destination folder where to download the data before it get's unpacked and installed.

I can't find this setting in Autodesk Access, but need that, because it can't be the case that all is downloaded to C: drive. Also usage for "one download for network" is missing ... or is it's me to just not find it?

Those features don’t exist yet

Hi,

>> Those features don’t exist yet

Thank you, so at least I know that's not me just not finding the option.

However, without that it's a real worsening compared to Autodesk Desktop App (from one tool working not clean to another tool working not clean, but additionally has less/missing functionality).

Frustrating...

Agreed right now it doesn’t show add ins like ADA it's only showing updates right now

You have to go to your Autodesk Account to manually download to put them in a specific location

Hi,

>> it's only showing updates right now

And even that is incorrect,

a) not showing all updates available and not installed

b) showing updates, which you should not install (e.g. shows Infraworks 2022 update, if I would install that it would mess with the already installed version 2023)

I know it's not you @DarrenP  but it's so bad what goes out with statement "improvement" from Autodesk.

@Alfred.NESWADBA... You stated, "showing updates, which you should not install (e.g. shows Infraworks 2022 update, if I would install that it would mess with the already installed version 2023)". Unless I'm misunderstanding, those are two different versions of Infraworks. The 2022 version that is on your system, has an update. That will not affect your 2023 install at all. I have 5 versions of Revit on my system right now.... 2019-2023. I routinely get updates, fixes, etc. to the earlier versions of the software. Those updates do not have anything to do with the 2023 version that is also on my system.

Now if Infraworks somehow works differently than that, I apologize and you can let me know. Thank you!

Hi,

>> Unless I'm misunderstanding, those are two different versions of Infraworks

Yes, but Infraworks is one of these systems, were you should not (could not) have multiple versions installed on the system. If you install 2023 you first have to uninstall 2022, which I did. However, even as it is not installed it shows an update "Infraworks 2022.1".

>> I have 5 versions of Revit on my system

Yes, but Revit is not Infraworks.

@Alfred.NESWADBA Your very specific issue needs to be a resolution from the INFRAWORKS product managers who apparently are not involved with ACCESS' team into the details and quirks of the program.

But then again, if you do not have the older software installed, are you saying the older software's update is not intelligent enough to A) look for the old software nd validate it's need and B) it would just blindly install itself no matter what and ruing your ONLY A LATER VERSION IS INSTALLED ON THE PC deliberately? Surely not my friend. That sounds very far fetched even for Autodesk to allow if true.

Hi @pendean

>> Your very specific issue needs to be a resolution

>> from the INFRAWORKS product managers

The forum manager from this forum can forward that to the Infraworks group. For me it's not important who inside Autodesk is responsable for this, I already gave up to search through all their departments. At least it's an Autodesk product and they have to solve this.

>> are you saying the older software's update is

>> not intelligent enough [...]

If Infraworks 2022 is not installed, Autodesk Access should not (does not have to) show me an update for 2022.

Infraworks updates are not updates as we know from AutoCAD, where some files are replaced, but the installation stays valid. Infraworks 2022.1 first uninstalls existing software (completely) and then does a new install of the product. And that can kill even newer version of Infraworks (at my station installing 2022.1 update of Infraworks killed the installation of Infraworks 2023)

So to say "the update is not intelligent enough" .. not sure, if it's the software or the people who wrote that. 😉

@Alfred.NESWADBA LOL, got it, the real issue you had is you don't want to see irrelevant updates. Nothing more. All the other is just extra.

Hi Alfred, I'd like to look at the Infraworks 2022 update showing for you when it shouldn't.  Can you run the log collection tool and send them to me at firstname.lastname@autodesk.com?

Also, we appreciate the need for specifying the local cache folder for downloads and have that in the backlog for a future release, along with a local network folder option for updates.  We also need to be smarter about how we utilize that local cache and keep it tidy.

Hi @danny.polkinhorn

sent the file, but got the info that the mail can't be sent because of file-size.

As I guess you would not be asking for the file if you know that you can't receive it I assume the message is not correct.

Tried it again and instead of embedding the file I sent a link to a download from our server, hopefully you'll receive that.

I have the problem with the download to C too. My drive C is full because all Autodesk Apps install to C (And as supporter and developer I need multiple versions installed). I have 3 more harddrives with much more space. Why the downloads are all placed at C? Why I cannot select a path like it was possible at the desktop app before. This is STUPID!!!

I came here looking for the path to where the Autodesk Access update files are downloaded to by default, and I do not see the answer above. I have since located the folder.
My files download to the folder "C:\Autodesk\Access\{subfolder}"
Once the installs are complete, the files in the sub-folders can be deleted.
