P&ID Auto-numbering

P&ID Auto-numbering

We should be able to setup an auto numbering for lines, valves, equipment for an entire project and being able to see and setup where the project starts his numbers and when an item is deleted by a user, every users, in the same project, who insert a new item should have that deleted number assigned on his new item. If not, it create a gap in the numbers list.

For example, I am the list manager for the company I am working for. At this time, every new project, members have to ask me a list of new valve numbers, new pipe numbers, equipments etc..
I am thinking to setup a centralized project where my consultants can work in (like a cloud vault) and where they just have to draw because I've setup an auto-numbering setting from where my sequence is. And if they change something, like deleting an item, the numbers can be auto assigned again.

From there I could be able to use smart P&ID to have an up to date list of my equipment (new and existing) fetched from the smart P&ID database of that project without having to manage new and deleted items. By now, I can fetch data from project database and create an excel list being live updated. I can search a valve number and know on what P&ID it is and on what line number it is. It's a great feature but, we are missing auto-driven numbering management in relation to the project database from a custom setup made in the project settings.

You can setup autonumbering for many things within the project, either by project or by drawing.  Cadstudio makes a product (PlantDataManager) that will allow someone from outside the project to input data into the project and then be accepted within the project.   You can also attach and bring in data from an outside database or input from excel.  But to have the data for the project driven from some outside automated source is extremely dangerous

i've drawn a P&ID with auto numbering, i.e, 101 to some 230 valve numbering, later i need my valve numbers to change from 101 - 230 to 301-430, is there any other way to change the numbering other than selecting each valve and changing its number individually?

Yes,  Use the data manager to export to Excel.  Renumber the valves in Excel and import it back into the data manager.  You can use the option to accept all.  Works best if you open all the drawings before importing it to keep someone else from opening a drawing and stalling the update.

Inside your p&id You can export your valve data from data manager (drawing data) to an excel sheet, then you change your numbers in the excel sheet and you import it with the data manager
