Improvement to project admin control

Improvement to project admin control

The installation for Plant 3D / P&ID places all of the project specific files in a separate folder. Right now they are in the root of the project folder and some are in other subfolders. This requires identification of all of the individual files and changing their NTFS permissions individually.

If they were all placed in a subfolder (e.g.“Project Setup”) then it would be extremely easy for IT to lock out all end users except whoever should be altering these files. That would protect against changes made through Project Setup or by editing or trying to delete these .XML, .DCF, .projSymbolStyles.dwg and other miscellaneous project setup files.

The general recommendation is to define a project template that contains the main drawing folders outside of itself. We have clients who do this all the time.  As long as there is a shared folder in common, plant can find a relative path.

You can set the P&ID or 3d models folder to a folder above the plant project, and still have a working project.

i would also prefer to move ALL plant customable files to a seperate project folder. includes the files which are saved in C:\programs... like the "P3dEnumeration.xml" file or "NominalDiameterMap.csv"..

also the "PnPLocalDataCachePurger.exe " should have a shortcut in the windows start menu.

strongly agree with this one. admins need better control over who can see and do what

Can't you make either the Project.xml or the projSymbolStyle.dwg(can't remember which at the moment) Read Only to acheive what you're going for here? Anyone could change that setting back but they'd have to know what they're looking for and go in and do it on purpose. They couldn't do it by accident...

I think the Project manager should have sometime of security embeded when launched. We do not want all the users to create new projects, only a hand few of admins with this control should be allowed. If only Autodesk would add the functionality of vault, but to a minimum for the security that would work. Currently anyone has free rain to to what ever they want, unless it's controoled by AD in the windows enviroment.

That's already in Vault.

I understand that's already in Vault but not all enginerring companies will use Vault, but I still thinki it should have some of the basic functionality.
