Calculate bolt length for lapped flanges

The current bolt length calculation does not include the parameter "flange offset" as this affects only the visual aspect. We have to manually adjust the flange thickness in the lapped flange to include a stub-end or collar, and create duplicate lapped flanges to mate with every possible.

 

Having the bolt length calculated with the flange offset included would solve many problems. This should be switched on or off in the project setup, so that existing projects that have the manipulated flange thicknesses are not negatively affected.

@RickFrance Unless I'm mistaken, your video does not mention the use of lap joint flanges. Also I don't believe that spamming new endcodes would be a logical solution, only a workaround. The proper way would be if Autodesk would change the bolt formula from

Lbolt -(FTbolt) + FT1 + FT2

to

Lbolt -(FTbolt) + FT1 + FO1 + FT2 + FO2

With FO being the existing value flange offset as defined in the catalog.

It may not, but it also mentions another webcast that deals specifically with lap joint flanges with a Wafer Valve and the basic concept is the same. I don't think Autodesk would ever make a change as you are suggesting since there is a pretty simple method already in place. It's also a one time setup and not something you would have to do over and over the rest of your life and there are already out of the box examples. The videos are to get deeper in to it and get even more out of the product then what they have done out of the box.

Thanks, I will take a look at the other video soon. It is true that Autodesk probably won't make that change, and that there are workarounds. I also believe that it is not as big of a problem with ASME as it is with the European system.
