Better Integration Between Plant 3D and Navisworks

Better Integration Between Plant 3D and Navisworks

Being able to see a full set of properties of Plant objects in Navisworks has been a frequent request from users.  Also, there appears to be some issues with installation sequences in our Suites that is causing the Plant object enablers to not work properly with Navisworks and require un-/re-installation.  Finally, the Plant 3D OE will often not install with Navisworks Simulate but has no problems with Manage.

Exporting the PnPID out to Navisworks would allow the use of DataTools to connect to the SQL database and display whatever properties the user wants.

This is two defects and a wish list. In the future, can you split them up?

Sure Peter I will.

Datalink does this:https://apps.exchange.autodesk.com/PLNT3D/en/Detail/Index?id=appstore.exchange.autodesk.com%3adatali...

In addition, for properties that contain hyperlinks or file paths (ftp, http, UNC), it converts those to clickable hyperlinks in Navisworks which allows all of the Navisworks apps to open files from the model.

we use Plant 3D and Navisworks Simulate side by side. might as well be one program for us so i would love to see improvements between the 2.

Dave,

Datalink is $50.

We would like the program we paid a lot of money for, to just work better.

Do we have to wait for Autodesk to buy ECAD before this is addressed?

A. Autodesk has no plans to purchase data link.  B. It is a fix that you can use now.

We are also in the process of adding more tools, like switching between off page connectors from P&IDs, linking p&ID tagged items to the 3d model, and building tools to work with quantification.

I think I saw a tool on the Exchange site that allows Navisworks to use Data Tools to access Plant 3D Data.  I don't remember what it's called though.

Dave developed this Datalink tool 2 year ago itself. One of the very effective and efficient tool, with no errors. Worth if ADSK buys, it will encourage them to develop similar good tools.

Thanks Arun.

There should be a proper "NWC/NWD out" command from Plant 3D that takes all properties into the Navisworks Environment.

Is this still being considered at all?

Navisworks can link directly to the Plant 3D database using DataTools.

I recomment to integrate the Database Tools connection to the ObjectsEnabler (like it is done at all the other additional tools), so the user has only to set the checkbox to active.

The datalink tool does work.  I have been using it to push P&ID data over to the model in Navisworks to keep from having to create double data entry.

Starting from AutoCAD Plant 3D 2022 RTM, more Plant properties are displayed in Navisoworks . E.g. Equipment Nozzle
