Add option to automatically use same color of insultation as color of pipe

Add option to automatically use same color of insultation as color of pipe

Since a couple of Version of P3D the insulation is show transparent and green.

This looks very good in Autocad, but isn't helpful in Navisworks.

Hi all,

At this moment we always need to manually change the layer color of the insulation to match the piping color.

We automatically color our pipes according to the Service to identify the different piping systems easily in Navisworks.

We need to redo this layer color change every time we change the Line number.

We would very much like to have an option to automatically choose the insulation color via the Project Setup (or some other way)

Please like this idea if this seems helpful to you.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I just noticed that this issue i new to Navisworks 2022.

In Navisworks 2021 the insulation is shown in the color of the pipe itself.

Does anybody know if this is a setting or hard coded in the software?

Kind Regards

Robin

Autodesk
Status changed to: Implemented

Starting from AutoCAD Plant 3D 2023 RTM, you can now use the new sysvar PLANTINSULATIONUSEPARTLAYER to control.

See the following Help for more details.

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for informing us this is added.

I really like that Autodesk takes this into the development.

I've tested this feature just now and it works, but not in the way I was hoping it would.

When I change the parameter to ON I get the insulation in the same color as the pipe, but I loose the option to place it transparent.

Also in navisworks now the Pipe and the insulation are on the same layer and in the same object so I can't hide the insulation.

I was hoping that the insulation would stay on it's own layer but would get the same color as the pipe as It used to be in the older P3D versions.

Kind Regards.

@robin.schuer is absolutely right!

It's nice that we can now switch between the green transparent insulation visuals and insulation with the same color as the pipe, but for the latter option, the insulation should really be placed in a separate layer (like it used to be in older Plant 3D versions)

Only then can we easily select and hide/show insulation in Navisworks:
