Ability to modify project setup while the project drawings are in use

When drawings for an AutoCAD Plant 3D or AutoCAD P&ID project are in use by designers the project settings are locked. This is a data integrity safeguard put in place to avoid corruption of the drawings and the project database.

However, it’s common practice to make changes to the project configuration throughout the project lifecycle (modifying and adding new P&ID symbols, modifications to process services list, modifying isometric drawing template and configurations, etc.)

Project admins should be able to make such modifications to project settings and add new P&ID symbols while the project is in use.

If anything the project settings for a package should be modifiable if said package isn't open.  If one of my guys is using P&ID and I want to change something in 3D there shouldn't be a conflict.  I understand single instance and modifying databases and locking, but when multiple databases are in use, I don't really see the problem unless there's direct impact from one to another.  Even if that's the case, prompting a user to close/reopen an instance should be enough to propagate the changes if it can't be done in realtime.

We recently switched to Plant 3D with P&ID, and not being able to make changes to the database while another user has the project open is extremely frustrating. I understand that if a database gets corrupted the whole project goes down, but what I don't understand is how two or more user can make changes to drawings, add remove equipment, and that is being written to the database at the same time. However, when you open the properties for the project you can't save any changes unless everyone gets out of the project? Seems multiple people are accessing the database while working, why can't you lock other users out of just the properties/settings section while one user is making changes, but still allow writing to the database for just working in the software?

This should be the very foundation of this software, to not have it severely cripples Plant 3D and P&ID.
