Text appears as ###

In PID, I use the exact same title block. Yet on some drawings not the text appears but ####.
The text should be automatically retrieved from the drawing settings. In almost all drawings this goes well. With some it does not want to retrieve the text.
I have tried the following
- REGENALL
- Restart PC and Autocad
- Remove block and insert again.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Hello Bert,

Are you working on a collaboration project, or are you storing your SQLite project on a onedrive or dropbox service?

The only thing I can think of is that there might be a syncronisation issue between your database files and the actual drawing file. 

Do you still have the issue when you make a test project on a local hard drive that is not linked to a cloud service?
Are the only fields with this behaviour, fields that reference P3D data? or do regular fields referring to for example the file location/ drawing name / plotdate / ... also showing this behaviour?

Dear Michiel,

We are indeed using Dropbox as a cloud application.

I read your advice and did the following:
- create new project on my local drive
- copy settings from the existing project
-"copy drawing to project"
- Restart computer

As you can see the exact same drawing also has the problem.
Am I doing the test right or am I overlooking something?

It might be a very stupid question, but if your fields are defined within the attributes of your titleblock, are you 100% sure that your title blocks are the same? In the drawing with the error, you can use the insert command to re-insert the title block from the .dwg that works. Your placement doesn't matter, what matters is that you have the option to redefine the existing block. (They should have the same name, if they don't they're problably not the same block). After you redefined the existing title block, use the REGEN command to see if the fields update correctly.

If your fields are not a part of your title block, but just superimposed in the paper space on top of your titleblock, they will be regular fields, double click-select them and right-click to edit field to see if they reference the correct project/property.

Hello Bert, 

I'm glad I could be of assistance.

One small thing though, you might already know this, if you edit the attributes of a block definition, you will need to use the ATTSYNC command on your block reference when you return to your paperspace, to have the attributes correcty updated. After that a regen should work to refresh the fields content.

The disadvantage of changing a single block definition is that you'll need to repeat this for each faulty drawing. At that point re-inserting the working block might and redifining the block definition might be a better workflow.

No,i did not know this command. It is indeed annoying that I have to redo this every time title blocks with the problem.

I followed your reasoning and watched this video on how to do it.

Dag Bert,

Would it be possible to share a dummy project with a working and not working P&ID? (make a new project based on the faulty one and copy some working and not-working drawings into your new project. The same as you have done earlier) Any lines and assets you don't want us to see you can delete. But then at least we can take a look for ourselves at your titleblock setup. just zip the project folder and add it here.
