sw x threaded gate valves

I would like to get a sw x threaded gate valve for vents and drains added to the spec but I cannot figure out how to do this. Is it possible? I have looked in the catalog and they are not available.

I am not sure what you mean by "spec sheet" there are a lot of vendors that make this type valve. It is a common valve used for vents and drains. Seems like it would be in the ASME valve catalog but I cannot find it. Also don't see where there is a 3" long PExTE pipe nipple. Can you edit a 3 1/2" and save it as a 3" long nipple.  I am also have trouble with locating A53 ERW pipe in the catalog.

The Out Of The Box specs/catalogs included with Plant 3D are a starting point, not a complete collection of every valve and piping component.

 

You can easily create a SWxTHRD gate valve but it will require an understanding of how the catalog and spec builder operate, how P3D uses/identifies objects and end codes and how ultimately that gets translated to an isometric.

 

Likewise you can create virtually any kind of pipe (or piping component for that matter).

 

In the attached screenshot note the circled items.  Open spec editor and go to catalog editor.  Here you can select a gate valve that meets your basic requirements.  Duplicate this component.  Change (1) port end type to SW and (1) to THRD.  After any other modifications have been completed save to catalog.  This valve will now be available to add to your spec editor. 

 

As @h_eger has stated, if you are just getting started with P3D, a formal training class would not be an unwise decision.  Without training/years of experience expect a very bumpy road ahead.

Thank you for the help. Another question I have is why do the valves connected to tanks show a disconnect when the day before they showed a connection?

I also have an issue with valves. I have changed the handwheel on a gate valve to a cylinder to represent a MOV. I assigned a tag number to it. When I open the dwg back up all the MOV's are back to handwheels? Why is that?

The two issues you are describing are not typical. 

 

There should be no disconnects from equipment and piping models from one day to the next unless one of the models was modified or moved.  Plant 3D does not automatically move connected models for you, meaning if you move the tank or the pipe the disconnect will occur.  If you change the nozzle size, location, rating etc. it will cause a disconnect, and the pipe model will need to be updated accordingly.

 

I have never seen Plant change the valve operator one day to the next.

 

How are you working this project?  Saved locally to your machine?  Network server?  Cloud server?

I am working on my C drive. The xrefs have not been moved nor have the nozzles been updated. I am the only one working on this model. I will reconnect them all today and let you know what happens tomorrow. Thank you

Ok, I was suspecting that there may be a sync issue with working on cloud and/or another user was updating the files/working on older version and causing the issue.

 

Since it is just you working on the hard drive, I do not know of a reason for the behavior you are describing.  It is either operator error or this is some new bug that I have not seen.

I created the sw x thrd valve and I don't know if it is a coincidence but now I cannot manipulate the handwheels on the gate valves. The properties box does not include valve operator options anymore?? Even the ones that have a cylinder on them now are no longer allowing me to change them. Is this a setting?

Again this is not normal behavior for Plant 3D.  The OOTB valves in the catalog should be able to have their operators changed via properties with minimal hassle.  Perhaps the "Valve Operator" category is simply collapsed in the properties pane?

 

I am not sure what is causing your myriad of issues, but its possible we are in data corruption/software corruption territory.

Did you create it as a valve or valve body? Rather than create a new part from scratch, typically it's easier to make a duplicate of your SWxSW valve and change the end connections, etc..
