Platforms on converted equipment

I have imported a block from an AutoCAD dwg file, and have converted it to an equipment using the PLANTEQUIPMENTCONVERT function. 

When I then edit the equipment I do not see any options for adding trim (i.e. platforms and ladders). 

I am running AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018 and am not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if platforms cannot be added to converted equipment.

You can only add platforms to equipment created through the Create Equipment dialog, not to converted equipment.  Plant expects the converted equipment to have all the necessary geometry included. You could create the equipment using the dialog, and then explode it and erase everything but the platform, but again, that keeps it from being edited through the Equipment dialog.
