Pipe 2 pipe dimension on isometric

Dear Forum members and Autodesk,

In 1 of our projects done in Plant 3D 2016 we noticed the following

When you have a pipe to pipe connection ( 6"x 4") the dimensions on isometric will be from pipe wall to whatever is in the pipe ( let assume an flange )

Normally as far as I know the dimension should be from centerline pipe to whatever is in the pipe ( let assume an flange )

Is this an setting or is it normal for P3D to dimension pipe 2 pipe connections from the outside wall instead of the center of the pipe?

I hope im not to confusing and is so pls ask me to clarify 🙂

To clarify what I need pls see screenshot

What we need is the dimension of 213.44 instead of 130.99 on isometric.

it depends, to what you have used for your connection.

if you use olets for that, than the dimension is from the outside, if you use stubin than the dimension is to the middle of the pipe.

in your case delete the piece of pipe between the blue pipe and the your valve.

click the + on the empty site of the valve then press "S" for stubin and connect it to the blue one. you pipe should be created now to the middle of the blue pipe. if you check the pipe length in porperties and later on isometric you will see its the same.

I did not used any of those

It is just plain pipe 2 pipe connection

But I figured things out already and found for what we say a "bug" in P3D 2016
I'll show you

Below you'll see an plain pipe 2 pipe ( no use of stub in or whatsoever,)

You can also see that the yellow pipe is connected to the blue one simply because you DO NOT SEE a water drop

Now the first iso generated from this pipe generates an dimension of 108

After deleting the yellow pipe and reconnect this the same way I did before p3d generates the following,

Please fix this bug as it can potentially coz really expensive mistakes.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK GOOD FOR PIPE TO PIPE CONNECTIONS>

even though there is no drop or error in p3d the pipe connection dimension is still wrong so extra check is needed.

Extra explanation.
The dimension of 108 is from outside the pipe wall and the dimension of 187 is from center pipe

I tried the way you recommended me to work ( stub-in ) and that seems to work more trustable then plain pipe to pipe and  a lot faster

Every time when connecting an pipe to pipe like this it always gives the correct dimension.

Seems reliable to use and many thanks for this
