Hi Tom
Many thanks for comprehensive explanation.
Unfortunately, being a mega-noob, I haven't made the progress this help deserves!
I have added the Location1 field in Project Setup to our Field Disc Instrument and set it to "Leader. From" - OK
I have positioned the instrument close to a process line and connected it using the default leader from a snap node on the instrument to a perp on the line - OK
If I check the properties of the leader it includes To and From fields with associated tag numbers. The To field displays the process line number - OK
But the From field (i. e. the instrument end of the leader) displays a kind of generic unpopulated line tag 4-?-510/004-?-1 - not sure about this.
In any event, there are string values in both To and From fields, so I would expect the instrument properties to reflect this.
However, looking in the properties of the instrument, the Location1 field now exists but displays just a question mark. Clicking the lightening symbol shows that the field is set to Acquire mode from "Leader.From".
So I don't see why the Location1 field isn't actually acquiring!
Also with regard to leaders, I got the impression from your post that it should be possible to introduce an Auto-Leader between the instrument and the process line, but couldn't work out how. If that could work and Location1 be populated in the instrument properties then we would be part way there.
I looked at the reporting side. In General Settings, Reports, Instrument List, Modify, but couldn't find Location1 as an option to add to the Instrument List report. Does this have to be registered elsewhere to make it available?
Finally (for now) I tried to create a secondary pipe line type without arrows so that I could try linking the instrument to the line with plain pipe.
When I try to place pipe in the drawing nothing appears!
If you can make any sense of the above ramblings and could give any further pointers it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Phil
