Multi-user with SQL server (Online network)

Hi all,

I have some trouble with SQL server when config a new project. I have read the Microsoft_SQL_Server_with_Plant_3D documentation but still have some issue I don't understand:

  1.  Can I collaborate with someone else using an online network (via SQL server only not Vault or BIM360). If yes,             how I can share with him ? Does he need to install SQL server ? How he can access my server instance ?

       If SQL server can not, there are any solutions for me ?

  2. When config project, where I need to put the path (see figure 1), inside or outside SQL instance ?

1. You can share, but it happens in two parts. The data is stored in sql server and the project files are stored in a file server (which is standard windows file sharing). The users need access to the same file server and SQL server through the windows network. This setup works best for short distances (typically within or near the same city).

2. As mentioned above the files live on a file server.

Thank @dave.wolfe for the solution, as you mention that SQL server only does not suitable for large distances, maybe I will explore Vault. But one more question, does Vault suit for a small project (2-4 members) and there are any documentation about config project with Vault (for online network) ?

Use BIM360, its honestly the easiest way to share the project across offices/WFH

Think of the time you've spent trying to set it up, and the dollars its cost. Honestly, its easier. No hardware in your office, no setting up of servers, just log on, make the BIM360 project, sync the Plant3D project and its done.

Maybe I will try BIM360 for a trial time. Could I use collaborate for a trial version ? thanks for your help.

One more question, do I need to use BIM Collaborate Pro for P3D (for collaborate small team) or use BIM360 only ? I saw that a big difference in pricing :((((

We only used BIM360 with P3D and it worked a treat, like @Tomislav.Golubovic says it is definitely the way to go,

It's worth the extra outlay.
