Knife Gate Valve Bolting

Knife Gate Valve Bolting

I'm trying to get the bolting correct for a knife gate valve that we're using. It's a 4" valve so it has a total of 8 bolt holes, 6 thru holes and the top 2 are tapped. How is this handled in P3D? I'll need 6 studs and 4 tap screws.

It is now 2018, I am using Plant 3D 2019, has there been any resolution? Anybody looking at it? I work in the pulp and paper industry and we use a lot of lugged knife gates. I constantly have to tell CM's and procurement guys "the bolts will be wrong on the knife gates"

Isn't it the same problem with many lugged and wafer style valves that require cap screws?

You could provide optional specialty bolting based on the size/rating combinations, so that it generates an appropriate description and accumulates differently than otherwise standard bolt sets.  You could flag the specific valve types/sizes to indicate on the iso some manner of cap screws are required.

For the most part we don't find it *that* big of a deal.  Check with the fabricators the job is being sent to, to see if they want this indicated or not.  Some will want it so they can back-charge for the RFI when the ones you spec'd inevitably wrong (too short, or too long, or wrong material, or... ).  Some will ignore whatever design notes you provide and work off of what is right in front of them.  But for the most part they know what to do without being explicitly told.
