Is it possible to xref equipment in?

Is it possible to create Plant 3D equipment then xref them into the project model?

I want to do this because the equipment files which I have exported from another software are extremely large.

I have tried this but the xrefed equipment does not show up in the Ortho sheets?

Thanks for assistance in this.

Mark

@mgalicki,

Please make sure you have enabled "X-ref File name" in 3D model selection while generating Ortho.

Include equipment model dwg in Plant 3D Drawings and then attach it as overlay to your drawing. You may need to attach it again during Ortho Editor or select it during New View wizard in Ortho View.

You can certainly x-ref equipment into your piping model. In fact, that is the preferred method for large equipment files. For those models to show up in your Ortho drawings they must be part of the Project and show up in the Project Manager. You can create a new folder called Equipment and copy those models to your project.

Sławomir & Darrell,

Thank you for your tips!

I was able to get the equipment to show up in the ortho.

I'm not sure why some of the equipment wasn't showing up earlier?

The pieces in question were large in size & entity count, also they were not 3D they appeared to be wire frame but they were generated form a 3 step conversion out of NavisWorks to FBX, then from an FBX file to a dwg.

But they seem to be cooperating at this point.

I'll keep you posted.

Thank you both,

Mark

can someone explain to me why this is even an option? how is it anything other than a way to confuse, confound, and screw up a user trying to make a picture with an xref in it? what is autodesk doing???
