Hi Experts,
I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
In my company, we are organizing some master units. A master unit could be a pump unit, which includes the PumpUnit.dwg and the exported DWG from our Inventor, as we draw our steel structure in the frame generator. If we need the pump unit in more than one size, we create them in separate master projects to avoid double tagging.
Our folder structure is as follows:
- Plantdesign
- Pump Unit
- PumpUnit.dwg
- PumpUnitFrame.dwg (Xref’ed into PumpUnit.dwg)
- Pump Unit
- Ortho Drawings
- Dwgs
- PumpUnitOrtho.dwg
- Dwgs
- Inventor Drawings
- PumpUnit Inventor drawings
- PumpUnit Inventor drawings
Now, here’s the fun part. I want to copy the pump unit to my new real project. I use "Copy Drawing to Project" on the Plantdesign/PumpUnit.dwg and want it to take the references over to the new project. It places the PumpUnit.dwg in the correct subfolder, but it throws the reference PumpUnitFrame.dwg inside the Plantdesign folder. And then I have to move it and reattach it to the right source.
After that, I have to manually copy the Ortho drawing and keep the same name because we cannot change the source on an Ortho and keep all the tags and dimensions?. I also need to manually copy or regenerate all the isometrics.
If you have any insights or suggestions on how to streamline this process, please share your thoughts!
