Editing saved files in dwg or dxf format

Dear community,

I have some issues when saving my P&ID drawings in AutoCAD Plant 3D 2025, and was very much hoping of finding some answers here.
Please be so kind as to direct me to an already existing answer, in case I have overlooked something.

My issue is the following:

When I am saving a file on my computer, and try to reopen and add to it I stumbled into one of two problems:

a) the saved file is in a dwg format, and upon opening (no matter if from the desktop or project manager within the software) does not show any of the pipelines, apparatuses or any other parts I have drawn up until the moment of saving

or

b) I open the file from a dxf format - after saving and closing it - and though I can see all the drawn parts I am not able edit them or add to the drawing.

As this is an unacceptable hurdle in my task I would be very grateful for any help in the matter.

please provide complete system information under which you are working with P3D 2025
