Custom PID objects revert to original after Project setup has been opened

Hello everybody,

I am not sure if I am missing something here, but when I use the [Convert to P&ID object] command to create a custom symbol in Plant, and then open the project setup, the new symbol reverts to its original from the class definition.

Is it the wrong workflow I am applying or a setting I have overseen..??

Help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Convert to P&ID Object will create a single instance of a P&ID symbol for you using the converted geometry.

If you want to add the geometry to your symbol library to use as the default representation of a symbol, you'll need to do that through Project Setup.

Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks for the answer!

I want to use a single instance symbol in the current project.

When I make the symbol (a simple rectangle f. ex.), I need to assign it to a class that already has a symbol defined.

Then everything is fine until I have to do something else in project setup. When I open project setup the single instance symbol I have created turns to its default class definition symbol.

Is that the normal Plant 3D behavior?

I don't think I have encountered that before.

Hi,

No, definitely not normal behaviour.

What class of symbol are you creating?  If the class has a Symbol List type property defined, like the Normally property for Hand Valves, that may be causing an issue.

Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks for the prompt answer.

It is a Field PLC I am trying to create. It does not have a Symbol list property in the class definitions.

I tried with some other default instrument classes, and they all do the same.

I think it has something to do with the type and loop number annotation that reside inside the block.

I have previously created an instrument class that does not have annotations, and it does act normally.

(didn't revert to the class symbol)

Thanks for the hint, at least now I can avoid getting into that issue again.

Regards

Radi
