creating or editing existing drawings without creating a project

I use a lot of existing plant drawings, which are consistently being modified. I'm just doing a small modification where I want to use Plant 3D to make a short pipe run, or just add a items to the system. I want to take the opportunity to update the drawings to 3D, but these are small jobs. The whole concept of creating a PROJECT is great if your doing a major piping and plant design. I just want to create a new 3D piping drawing where I can use the library and tool palettes without the whole creating project file.

So the basic question is how to create  a simple 3D piping drawing with valves, fittings without creating a PROJECT.

I can do this in basic AutoCAD, but I would like to use the Plant 3D objects, so I don't have to create new valve drawings or fittings.

Thanks for the input and assistance.

Use one project per client for small work. You can create subfolders to divide other projects. You may want to consider creating a custom drawing property that would hold a project number/name. You would have to fill it out for each drawing, but it'd still be intelligent.

The biggest difficulty is tagging. You would probably end up with a Plant 3d project per client if clients have tag formats that differ greatly.

Hi @Anonymous,

For routing pipe or using any of the tool palettes that AutoCAD Plant 3D supplies, the given drawing has to be associated to a project. It's not like AutoCAD where you can create a new drawing at any given point. So to answer the basic question, it wouldn't be possible to create a drawing without a project.

You'll notice that if you create a new drawing in any manner, you'll always be prompted to save the drawing to the current project before you're allowed to place any components, or route pipe. Assign to project.PNG
