Hi,

I would like to show construction grid lines (not AutoCAD gridlines) on my ortho views (Plans and Sections), is there a way to do it. In Revit you can establish your grid lines and then grid lines will be there in Plans and Sections automatically.

I try to make gridlines and insert it to my model but when I create ortho view text are note showing only lines and bubbles ①②③④.

Have you thought about putting them in paperspace?

I create my ortho, then xref in the grid file after.  Text and linetype comes in fine.

If you update your veiw, you will need to un-VP freez the layers of the grid file.  You can also create a layerstate, before you update view, then go back to that layerstate.

Sure this will work. I'm thinking about in the model the way Revit shows their grid lines. I guess no other option other than manually added.

     Have you checked your drafting settings? Or using the GRIDMODE variable? Also, what version of AutoCAD Plant 3D are you using, this is important because as far as I am aware the ortho grid wasn't introduced until 2014.

I'm using AutoCAD Plant 3D 2016 Suite Premium. I can't find any Grid Lines Setting any where in the program. Or maybe I dont know how to do it. Can you tell me how do you show or add grid lines (I called it construction grid lines not AutoCAD grid lines "F7").

There may be some confusion as to what you mean by “construction grid lines” (I don't think everyone opened your image file). You also clarified in another post that you’re “thinking about in the model the way Revit shows their grid lines” like shown below.  Is that correct?   I’m used to referring to these as the grid lines or column grid lines, whether in plan or elevation view.

If this is the case, then no, Plant 3D currently does not have this Revit-like functionality to show column grids automatically.  So you would need to draft these manually. However, you should avoid editing the Plant 3D orthos directly since this can break the connection back to the 3D model –thus making ortho updates not work.  Rather, as Peter Quinn suggested, you could draw these in paperspace over the top of the ortho view.

Alternatively, you could create grid lines in model space, off to the side or in a separate drawing, make a separate view of the grid at the same scale as your Plant 3D generated view, and then place that grid view over the top of the ortho view, aligned.  This is a variation of what Rod suggested earlier.

I would think you only need to draw these grids once and then you can copy them, block them, reuse them as needed.

This answer my question. Grid Lines are NOT available in Plant 3D. We need to manually add it.

Can you also xref a dwg with the gridlines with the correct scale? Make a clipping... But how do you align it to a point in the ortho view?
