Can't open project setup

Hi,

We have some issues with Autocad Plant 3d 2018 P&ID.

After we did the upgrade of our project from Autocad P&ID 2016 to Plant 3D 2018, we get this error message when opening the project setup. error.png

The project is on BIM 360 Team.

Can any one help us with this problem?

Hello @StigBrenden

I have seen this before. The solution that work previously was to find the same XML in the sample project (reference: Where is the sample project located for AutoCAD Plant 3D?), and copy the sample project XML file into the same location in the migrated project.

This XML file is the one that links (maps) the P&ID properties to the 3D element properties.

Tank's for the replay 🙂

This is  a BIM 360 project, and it seems to copy the files from BIM 360 Team drive to the local computer. I have found this location and copied the file xml file. But this is working only for a short time. I tested this on Tuesday and it was working then, but today it's not working any longer. And I need to copy the file to the same folder again.

It seems when I'm loading the project from BIM 360, it overwrite the the local files or compeers the local folder to the folder in BIM 360. When I'm looking at the folder on BIM 360 Team the xml file is not there. We have tried to copy the xml file to BIM 360 but it's not showing up in the local folder.

And if one of our team members is opening the project on an other computer we have the same issue.

This would simply be because the migrated project does not know that it needs to manage the XML file into BIM360 Team.
Was the project a P&ID only project previously?

After copying the XML into the directory, where you able to open project set-up and check-out the set-up?

If you can, try changing a setting set-up for the P&ID to 3D mapping (Ref: To edit an exiting P&ID to Plant 3D mapping), then check-in the set up and close the project (right click on the top level in project manager and select close project).

Check in the BIM360 Team website if the XML file as been uploaded. If it has then, have another user reopen and "syncronise from project" (right click again). Then see if the XML is in their local directory.

"Was the project a P&ID only project previously?"
- The Project was converted from Autocad P&ID 2016
After copying the XML into the directory, where you able to open project set-up and check-out the set-up?
- Yes
I followed the description given in the Ref. but it did not work. I will try it on a other computer to see if that help

Hi,

We have now tried it on a other computer, without any luck.

I will try to decribe what we have done.

First we copied the xml file to the local directory.

Opened then Project setup

Followed the guide given on the web page.

Closing the project setup, a sync window appers, and the window closes.

If I now wait for some minutes, the sync window shows agian and the xml file on the local folder is gone.

If I try to close the project and open it again the xml file is gone or if I refresh the project it's gone.

If I try to I have chected on BIM 360 and the xml file is not there.

We noted that it does not Check inn the project settings, and even if I close the project on my computer when others tries to open the project setup they get a message telling them that I'm not check it in. Strange.

I hope that you can help us with this problem, because now we can't change any thing in the settings

In the process you mention in your last post, rather than editing the mapping file after opening, see if you can manually replace the mapping file while you have project set-up open (and Checked out to you).

Once you have done that, make a minor change to the mapping config (as previously discussed). Before closing the project set-up make an other change in some other area of the project set-up. For example add a test Iso Style or something similar.

Then Check in the set-up, but before closing the set-up check if the XML has appeared on the website. Also see if you can see a file that would have been added or updated from the other change you made.

If the file is on the website, then you should then be able to close the set-up, and close the project. Then verify if the XML is still on the website.

Reopen the project and refresh from website to verify the mapping has now been added and is working.

If this does not work, you may need to consider starting a new project in new version and copying the drawings into the new project.

Let us know how this goes.

Accepted solution

We found a solution, based on the information you gave us and some testing. We did two tings at the same time, I'm not sure if we need to do both things.

First we created a drawing in Plant 3D Drawings then I opened the project setup and created a new "view", in Plant 3d dwg settings-Data Manager Configuration.

I don't know if the last part had some thing to do with it, but every thing is now working perfect 🙂

I can't say if the extra step helped or not, but the key point is it is working for your know.

It may have helped, the main issues is getting Plant 3D to recognise that the file needs to be synced back to the project (cloud).

I am glad this has worked for you.
