Bill of material (BOM)

Hello.

I working on a big project and we haw done hole packet from PID to ISO. The project now contain app 24 PID 4 specs 13 3D piping models 1 equipment model and several civil models.

It has not been easy to reach so fare and we haw learned a lot about how to use and not use Plant3D.

We struggle with the different pipe dimensions in BOM list. It will not show total length on each pipe dimension in the different specs when we do the total BOM in report generator. It look like it summarize same spec and show only one dimension. The strange thing is that it is not same for all specs. Some spec are ok. When we does them separately on each pipe system it looks ok. We had a lot of work then with making manual BOM (the old facion way) parallel with the project.

Until now we haw created app 75 Isometric drawings and roughly calculation will be that we will end app on 250 to 500 Isometric drawings, so it's a little bit sad that everything not working.

We did not buy Plant3D to do things like this manually. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Someone haw experience with this out there?

The Isometric BOM will only give a list of the items it has to draw on the Iso. The BOM will group for each item, per each size.

Iso's are usually broken up by Line Number (which is usually a different number for each Spec, and maybe even Service).

As for the BOM from Report Creator, there are different options for the reports, they can be broken down for the entire project, for each drawing, or for each object. Its in the configuration of the report type.

If you can post a screenshot of where the errors are, it might be easier to work out where your problems are.

Many thanks for quick reply.

I have made a lot of different scenarios in the attached PDF file. As you can see the piping 100-200 is containing most pipe sizes and when I combine several systems it removes sizes.

The material specs we are dealing with:

SS1 - Stainless (1.4436)

SS2 - Stainless (1.4306)

DS1 - Duplex (1.4462)

CS2 - Carbon steel (PG235)

Additional picture better solution.

That all looks normal, its grouping the pipe by size, and then giving totals to that.

Do you want to separate each BOM for each spec?

No I want a total BOM with all specs / materials and sizes.

When I summaries several pipe systems it looks for me like the system then summarize on pipe size not spec.

Here picture of same pipe system 100-200 and 400. As you can see separately its working fine, but together it summaries the 25 mm from both materials.

I solved issue

Added engineering items spec in tree group and voila total boom sorted on material.

Have a Nice day.

I'm sorry... so you have to be a programmer to run a simple BOM?

Ya know, Cadworx has this nifty little feature called "Total BOM". One button click and I have a BOM of the entire project that is actually combined with item counts just like the individual isos... The company I work for just made the decision to go back to Cadworx a few months ago, and we should have it installed back on our machines by next month. To give you an idea of just how bad Plant3D is, several of the people who were apart of the decision to make the switch to Plant3D from Cadworx are no longer working with us. This program is an epic failure. I never expect much from Autodesk, but Plant3D is possibly the worst attempt they have ever made at producing software. Why not just stick to your guys' typical routine of buying someone else's software that works and break it? Just don't buy Cadworx, cause it works just fine the way it is ๐Ÿ™‚

Autodesk not improved the Plant3d software since 2012. The isometric engine is the main failure of Plant3d software. We too looking for stopping the subscription of Plant3d and looking to change to CADISON. I am facing many issues everyday in our Isometrics.

This is kind of off topic for a question on how to get a combined BOM, but I wanted to respond specifically to the comment about no improvements to Plant 3D since 2012.

We have had 2 new feature release and two bug fix releases each year for the last three years. Perhaps we haven't added the functionality that you were looking for, but we have been releasing new features and correcting issues with existing ones on a regular basis. I expect that we will continue to accelerate the pace of product improvment.

I'm sorry that you haven't found value in what we've released recently.

Peter, I always had a good support from your end.

There are many critical issues in Isometric which is not addressed. Control station/bypass line is the best example which is not addressed yet. In any process/power industry, control station/bypass lines will be part of system and quite many will be there in a plant.

I never able to generate a proper Isometric drawing for a control station/bypass system line in single isometric. I need to split at least for 2 to 3 isometric to get the drawing. If more sockets/threadolets comes again the system takes atleast 5 Isometrics to generate. The time taking for generating Isometrics also increasing with versions. Sometimes I may need to wait for 25mins.

I never had issue with 3d model which I rate is the best, but Isometric, honestly sorry and I am not alone to complaint. If your development team is active to discuss and to improve, I am always ready.

I still have lots of work to do for our iso setup but for the most part it works. The example below is untouched and dropped in less than five minutes. It will require some scrubbing (see reducer orientation) but it is acceptable for us.

Peter, do you have any solution to my Question,
How draw get the pipe class (CS1, CS2, etc.., and SS1, SS2, etc..,)
and then, 316 and Tubing plant 3d Drawing how to draw the piping?
