Any chance of adding Google Drive to https://web.autocad.com ?

But without this bug please: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-web-application-forum/warning-for-google-drive-users/m-p/6514...

Hi CADbloke,

Thank you for raising this question. The AutoCAD web app team welcomes feedback on the currently supported storage providers, as well as requests for other storage providers to be supported. The AutoCAD web app is an evolving product, and if you have any insights on how you plan to use Google Drive, please feel free to let us know so that we can take your feedback into consideration.

Thank you for your time,

Kerry

Thanks for chiming in Kerry

I sue Google Drive just as I use Dropbox. Some clients prefer it as an alternative to Dropbox, so just as simple cloud storage.

cheers

Ewen

We are in the same case and only way for us to eventually use web.autocad.com efficiently would be to have it support google drive which is our primary storage for all CAD stuff.

On another topic, Google Drive Stream (and other similar product like OneDrive etc..) is still not supported by AutoDesk when editing dwg files. AuroCAD  being designed only for SMB network file system. This has to change as more storage are moving to Cloud and SMB file server are going to be a thing of the past sooner or later.

About "if you have any insights on how you plan to use Google Drive" :

Strange question... a lot of people are using Drive instead of Box, Dropbox or OneDrive to do the same thing (or maybe better). Why Autocad is not taking Google integration amongst its primary choices is questionnable.

Is there plans for AutoCad to support Cloud storage like Drive both with Web.autocad and Drive File Stream or is it just not in the agenda ? It's important for Enterprise CAD strategy to know where they are heading to with AutoCad.

Thank you.

Best Regards.

BIM360 is Autodesk's cloud offerings that do way more: and yes, it costs extra, and it is geared towards office wide usage.

Drive is a single user island type of app that is freely offered/bundled with software subscriptions: I'm sure it will grow, but it will never compete with BIM360 (not for free anyway).

My 2cents worth.

Enjoy your day.

Hi,

I think you have to read a bit more on what G Suite is and how many businesses small to very large are using this incredible Google native cloud suite before saying Drive is "a single user island type of app".

BIM360 may be great but businesses can't rely on it for all business needs but only for CAD & BIM related things.
It's far better for businesses to build their storage strategy on general cloud storage with strong APIs integration then a CAD specific platform unless the later integrates well with them.

If Autodesk supports box, dropbox and onedrive, I can't see why it's nit the case for Drive. There must be a reason behind Autodesk choice and I would like to know which.

Hope you get my point.

Hi @jm_desvaux ,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I will share your comments regarding Google Drive and G Suite with the team and take it into consideration. I have some follow up questions to further understand the context. Is your office currently able to use AutoCAD web app at all? Or is having Google Drive as a storage provider a blocker for your team? Lastly, how do you imagine Google Drive Steam would work (primarily with AutoCAD installed desktop version or with AutoCAD web app)?

Thanks again,
Kerry

Our company has 200,000 users in Google Suite and our goal is to move 100% to the cloud. About 5% of those users will appreciate being able to view a DWG file directly within the Chrome browser on their Chromebook. We do have groups using BIM360 but that is only for large projects, where the added cost can be justified. The functionality of Google Shared Drives is way more advanced than Box, Dropbox, or OneDrive. It is imperative that Autodesk come up with a way to integrate with Google Suite and I am sure Autodesk knows this. I suspect there is another reason why it hasn't happened yet, which could be due to better alignment with Microsoft over Google.
