AutoCad web compatibility with a Chromebook

Anonymous

Hello
I'm a teacher attempting to provide remote instruction to my students during school closure. At our school, we use both Autocad and Fusion 360. At their homes some students have Pc's or Macs that can be used for the student licenses. However, some student may only have school supplied Chromebooks. I see there is a AutoCad web version that may support our needs. Do you believe a Chromebook will work? I don't have a chromebook to try it on. Is there any tutorials? Is there a web base version of Fusion 360?
Thank you in advance!

Hello @Anonymous,

The Autodesk Extended Access Program provides all commands and tools in the AutoCAD web app to everyone including students. Both Fusion 360 & the AutoCAD web app are supported on the latest Google Chrome web browser version on Chromebooks.

*First, please review the "Steps for Setting-Up Student Software" for guidance on how to. It will show students how to set up an Autodesk Account & have access to student software. Follow these direct links to the student version for AutoCAD & Fusion 360.

It seems like the web access is good for AutoCAD, but it looks like you still need Windows to be able to use Fusion.   Or am I missing something?

I do not believe this is accurate. I am a technology teacher and have tried to have my class use AutoCAD's web app with their Chromebooks. The app has an error message that runs along the top of the screen saying that the version of Google Chrome on Chromebooks is an unsupported browser and will not work. Technically, if you do create a new drawing in the app it will send you to the workspace, however the app becomes unusable shortly there after. It will crash, freeze up, or just take minutes to create a single line. I am looking for a way to teach 2D CAD to my students, but have been completely unable to do so with the limitations of technology restrictions, i.e. Chromebooks.

The unsupported browser banner will appear on 32 bit Chrome browsers.

Unfortunately, 32 bit Chrome browsers are not supported due to their limitations.

I am having the same issue, all of our students were provided Chromebooks, and they are unable to use AutoCAD on the web app, it closes out. Is there something else I can try? These Chromebooks are the only option they have.

My students have been able to make it work. I would have them update their
chromebook. First time or 2 it took quite a while, or kicked you out. I
think when they actually get an account made,(with their student email), it
will probably work. I gave them a template to use. Some things are net
available or limited. Sure beats nothing!

Make sure they are applying for student access.  I've had students use the "free trial" and the Web App stops working.

Can you check if your Chromebooks are using 64bit Chrome or are able to use 64bit Chrome?

Here is a link to our browser and system requirements

Thanks,

Jon

Chromebooks are a problem with this app.
You need a different app from a different software vendor, look in the Chromebook app store for the only options that work in your chromebooks.

My students are using it ok.  When they returned to school they signed in to AutoCad on the school computers.  Then they were able to move their drawings back and forth.  So "when" we are virtual again they can draw at home.  Again not all commands are there.  Not perfect, but can still move on.

I was never able to get the web app to work consistently on my student's Chromebooks. I felt that to provide my students with a platform that I knew was going to work on all of their devices I had to go with Onshape. I know that is a different type of software, more based in 3D much like Autodesk Inventor rather than 2D, but it has worked for me.
