Next Stage Game World Development So you’ve got your beautiful 3-dimensional world. Sci-Fi, Historical, the Present, Fantasy, Sports, etc., etc. You’ve scanned in hundreds of faces (Visages) – hundreds of bodies (Bodies). You have hair, clothing, etc. What next? You need a World. The invisible, unseen side of things. Not a game – a World. Its what animates and brings to life all that you’ve done. Lets call these animators Sprites – a computer term from the 80’s. We’ll attach these sprites to the people in your world. People Sprites would include Identity – I am this person/name, this sex, this age, this history, this education – these are my family members and friends. These experiences I have had. It would also include Character – I have these principles and I will or will not break them or I will or will not bend them. It would also include Personality – at its base, energy level. Socially and personally - desires and avoidances? It would also include Purpose – a job, a career, a hope – marriage, child raising, seeking a mate. Lesser issues – like drug seeking or larger issues like trying to cause social change. Buildings would have sprites too, but different than people. A building from the 1850’s that became a museum a 100 years ago and has had many facelifts and now houses some fine art would be defined as thus – that would be its sprite. So that when your people came near it or into it or heard about it they would react according to their own sprite. The educated and interested would seek it and ‘feel’ better in it. A cobblestone street? A Park? Statuary? What are the political and other social ramifications? Isn’t that different forms of education? Judiciary? Commerce? And what about Theology? Do you Believe or not? Do you have to? Let’s say we have a World – and you are in it with an identity and background, etc. – but you are Free. Its First-person and your speech is understood. Will you get into trouble if you don’t show up for work? Will you get thrown into jail if you try to rob someone? Could that pretty lass at the store fall in love with you? Will you become famous? There is no Game here that I’ve described – only a World! Now lets give a foundation for Games. One way to see this would be an Historical Game with a Tableaux – a situation. Its 1937 – you have seen the film Triumph of the Will from Nazi Germany. You must stop this madman. This is the Objective of the Game. The game starts at the border of Germany where you’ve been allowed in as a journalist. There may be a dozen potentialities for you to succeed. Many more that end up in failure. His death will change this World. Will you succeed? Are there other actual people in the game? Who might help you in the game that is a Sprite? What about SciFi and Fantasy? What about sports? I want to do motorcycle roadracing in Europe in the early 70’s. That would be fun! To race against my Heroes! What joy! Now let us turn this corner. The purpose of introducing you to this is because in the next-gen you’ll lay down in a modified Cat-Scan or MRI and they’ll flip the switch and YOU’LL BE IN A GAME WORLD. A perceptual-reality like a dream but better. Like the Matrix, Strange Days and Brainstorm. That is where we’re going – no question. The education and entertainment opportunities are exquisite and endless. Dream on….. ShannonPaulThompsonMD501JosephineCorpusChristiTx
