Snap or Cursor and dimension precision

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am unable to precisely place an object. Starting with a rectangle which seems to be snapped but actually has 4 digit precision according to mouse coordinates. I'm not sure it even snapped even though there are the default snap modes selected.

So now I try to place a screw hole relative to the edge of the rectangle. It is simply not possible to have 4 digit precision with a mouse. This produces a dimension of 34,nnn when it should be 34.

Please accept my apologies for being a newbie. Can't find tutorials.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello @Anonymous

Welcome to the AutoCAD Mobile forum.

Talking about digit precision within the AutoCAD Mobile App it reminds me of the forum post "Point coordinates". But at the same time, when you talk about your mouse - it makes me suggest that you are not working with the AutoCAD Mobile App on a smartphone or tablet but instead with the AutoCAD Desktop Application or AutoCAD Web Application on your computer.

Could you please clarify which application you use and if the forum post above helped you?

Thank you for your reply, person whose name I forgot after I went into the reply mode... 😞

Update: Laptop, Windows 10, app from Windows store.

When searching before posting I looked at that thread and it doesn't seem to help but perhaps I haven't stated my confusion clearly. Again, newbie with no experience as yet.

So I place a rectangle at what seems to be aligned with a grid visually. I then filleted it on four corners visually and specifying 8MM radius. Placing x, y dimensions show the correct size of the rectangle.

But now, I can't seem to get the screw holes in. I place a circle and I cannot see how to reply to "center of circle" in the correct format ("keyword missing"). I can't place it with the mouse either, I can get it visually close but when I add the placement DIM it show me (for example 34,nnnn) when it should be 34,0000.

Zooming in shows that the rectangle didn't snap to the grid. So instead of it starting at 1700 it starts at 1700.2534 or something. Trying to place the hole with the mouse at 1734.2534 is nigh impossible.

So I need to place an object at x.0000, y.0000 but can't figure how to code it. More importantly is that I need to find a get started document or something. Placing an object in relation to another seems to be a common need. But the whole "what happens if I click here" method isn't working...

Thanks,

Mark

Hello @Anonymous

I think I understand now - thanks for explaining further.

When you place an object you can do this with the mouse - this is the obvious way. Another way to do this is the command line:

  1. After selecting the rectangle function you get asks to set the first point
  2. Enter for example 100,100
  3. You get asked to set the opposite corner
  4. Enter for example 200,200

After doing the steps above, my rectangle shows the expected properties which seem to be correct.

Does it help you to set the coordinates directly in the command line instead of using the mouse?

Could the information provided help you and answer your question?

I think I'm getting it. Thank you. The FILLET and DIM process are still clunky. It's all about the mouse which is never gonna be smooth enough. Would also like to see how to place in relation to another object instead of absolute coordinates. I need to play more.....

Thanks again,
