Difference between Nominal Connection Diameter and standard Connection Diameter?

Hi,

I think if you have lets say pipe with (I will give example in metric) nominal diameter DN100 but this DN100 can be delivered with different outside diameter (connection diameter) and for DN100 it can be variant outside diameter 108mm or 114mm or etc etc..
