Got a fun one here.

Our office is upgrading to Windows 10, and we noticed a big issue.

ARIAL NARROW will not display, the text just disappears.

Opening the same file on the Windows 10 PC

  • Using AutoCAD MEP 2017,  any text using ARIAL NARROW disappears. (Screen grab attached)
  • Using AutoCAD 2017,  the text is still there. (Screen grab attached)
  • Using AutoCAD 2018, the text disappears.

Opening the same file on the Windows 7 PC

  • Using AutoCAD MEP 2017,  the text is still there. (Screen grab attached)
  • Using AutoCAD 2017,  the text is still there.

We use the server for all configuration files. All fonts, plot styles, templates, etc. are kept on the server and accessed by each PC.

I have verified that the font ARIAL NARROW is on both the server and the local PC.

All DText with Arial Narrow just disappears.

MText with Arial Narrow gets converted to just Arial. When you edit the text on a Windows 10 PC to change the text to Arial Narrow, it disappears.

Odd that it is only one version, maybe something in the font folder is corrupting things. Follow this thread to the end of page 2

Post a DWG file with the problem, lets see if we get some other message to indicate what the issue may be.

Not sure what fixed it, but here is what I tried.

After searching, I found this thread. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/arial-narrow-with-windows-7/m-p/3219442#M216330

I know that CAD was installed and running before Office, this may have been the reason.

I used the Arial Narrow font we have on the work server, and selected it, and re-installed on the PC. Selected to override the previous copy.

I then went to the uninstall or change a program and selected Microsoft Office, and picked change and then picked the Online Repair.

After these where both done, when I open AuoCAD MEP 2017, the text appeared.

Hope this helps others.

Thank you for your help.
