No dialog box when exporting to .STEP format

Usually exporting a .step file is pretty easy.  Type "stepout", window pops up and you save the file.

yesterday out of nowhere...

When I try to export to .step I get a command prompt on my cursor asking for the file name.  Once file name is entered, it thinks forever (i let it run over night).  Nothing productive seems to have happened once it is done thinking.  searched my drive for the file and cannot find it.

-I checked that FILEDIA is set to 1.

I need these files converted to .STEP ASAP.

Hello,

Can you please check if the CMDDIA system variable is set to 1? If it is set to 0, please change its value to 1, to get the dialog.

Please do let me know if it worked.

Thank You,

And to speed up the STEP Export from AutoCAD Mechanical, prepare your Revit Models using this way:

Thanks.  That would be nice, but I do not have a fusion license.

Instead of Fusion 360* you can use AutoCAD Mechanical as well. AutoCAD Mechanical or Autodesk Inventor are also able to import SAT and export STEP. As SAT produces compact 3DSOLIDs, loading and exporting to STEP should be significant faster, as no object conversion is required.

Revit DWG or IFC export produces lightweight polyface meshes. Inside AutoCAD, those Polyface meshed are fast and small, but for STEP Export they have to be converted to true Surfaces first. This is a very time consuming process.

Perhaps your customer is satisfied with SAT Files directly from REVIT as well, then no additional step using AutoCAD is needed.

* Fusion 360 is the cheapest and newest Autodesk Product, which supports STEP Export.

I got a trial to fusion.  brought sat into fusion and exported .step no sweat.  the step file produced worked better in spatial analyzer as well.

I was initially using AutoCAD mechanical for this.  It is what perpetuated the thread.

The model from fusion is WAYYYYYYYYYY better when i bring it into Spatial Analyzer.
