Modeling Operation Error: Access violation when editing STEP model

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to import a STEP file to AutoCAD but keep getting a "Modeling Operation Error: Access violation" message after trying any command.   After 2 or 3 commands AutoCAD crashes with the following message:
"Internal Error: !dbobji.cpp@8016: eGeneralModelingFailure"

If I try to save as a .DWG, I get the message: "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."

Crash message says: "FATAL ERROR, Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x2ed6e48 Exception at 24962f7ch"

Attached you'll find a command log and the most I ca do with the file before AutoCAD crashes.  Any hints on how to fix this are much appreciated.  Cheers!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD Mechanical forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I am sorry to hear that you are having an issue with an imported STEP file. The Modeling Operation Error sounds like the file may be damaged in some way. Are you able to recreate the STEP file and try importing the new file?

It may help to repair the file as well, see How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files.

I found the following article relating to the second warning you mentioned:

"One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format" when saving a file in AutoCAD

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks for the quick response. AutoCAD crashes when I try to save or
export the STEP block with another name. I can only try purge and audit
(results in attached file above)
Would you mind checking the STEP file and hopefully export as a DWG that
doesn't crash? Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,

The file seems to be working for me, so it does not seem to be the file. I've attached the DWG I created below.

Maybe file location, user settings, or install?  If not already, move the file to a local drive then try importing from there. If you want to try a reset or reinstall that might help. Be sure to test before reimporting your settings:

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks a lot.  Good to hear that.
Couldn't find any attachment?
I've had issues with file location in the past so that makes sense.
