License Overlap between AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD from BDS Suite

Anonymous
Not applicable

We recently purchased a couple of seats of AutoCAD Mechanical for a specific Project and discovered this morning that a license was not available because it wass taken by someone using AutoCAD from the AutoCAD MEP BDS Suite. We were able to find the user and have them close program so that the person who needed Mechanical coud open and work eith it. However, since AutoCAD Mechanical is not part of the Building Design Suite, how does this happen and more importantly how can we prevent it.

all the products follow a specific cascading order set by Autodesk

this is the cascading order for Autocad 2016

AutoCAD P&ID 2016
AutoCAD Plant 3D 2016
Advance Steel 2016 with AutoCAD
AutoCAD Design Suite Standard 2016

Factory Design Suite Standard 2016
Building Design Suite Standard 2016
Infrastructure Design Suite Standard 2016
Plant Design Suite Standard 2016
AutoCAD Design Suite Ultimate 2016
Building Design Suite Premium 2016
Infrastructure Design Suite Premium 2016
Factory Design Suite Premium 2016
Product Design Suite Ultimate 2016
Plant Design Suite Premium 2016
Factory Design Suite Ultimate 2016
Building Design Suite Ultimate 2016
Infrastructure Design Suite Ultimate 2016

you could set up an options file to reserve a specific number of licenses

So regardless of the fact that AutoCAD Mechanical is 2016 and our BDS Suite is 2015, if AutoCAD 2016 is installed with AutoCAD Mechanical, anyone opening AutoCAD, any version could conceiveably grab the Mechanical License unless restrictioons are set up in the license file?

in that scenerio Autocad 2016 would only grab the Mechanical 2016 license it would not even see the BDS 2015 since there is no Autocad 2016 licenses in it

but yea options file would give you some control

We added a reserve clause in our options file but it did not work. Can you review these? Thanks.
