Disable "nearest"

Disable "nearest"

AutoCAD Mechanical throws "nearest" on with all sorts of commands - regardless of snap settings.

Besides that I personally hate "nearest" (it is just asking to be non-exact), it is just incredibly unsuited for many of the commands it suddenly switches on for. (for example trace contour, leaders etc).

Does anyone know a method to really, fully, disable "nearest"... or at least make sure that only the snaps I actually want are used?

Just unmark it in OSnap.
Works for me.

That don't work in AutoCAD Mechanical, since it will throw on contextual snaps based on command (or you must have switched that off.)

I like the contextual snaps in general (like it switches on "mid" when I use centerline), but nearest just doesn't work for me (ever).

I never had that problem.
How do you use "mid" with the centerline?
Do you have an example when it turns on?

Example would be easy:

- I do not have "mid" on as snap, but I can draw a rectangle, then go to the centerline function (AMCENTLINE) and when it asks for it's first point, I can go to the middle of a side of the rectangle and "mid" as a snap will suddenly work.

- I also do not have "perpendicular" on as a snap, but I can move to the other side of the rectangle now for the second point and the perpendicular snap will have been activated and I have a centerline in the middle of my rectangle (making it a cylinder).

This is an example where I find this behavior handy (although with dynamic input, autosnap tracking etc the second thing has become a tad useless), but ACM insists on switching on nearest all the time as well and that is just annoying (if only because nearest will never give any accuracy).

And yes, vanilla autocad now has similar centerline functionality, but that still doesn't stick it in the right layer or has the ends sticking out on the sides of the aforementioned rectangle.
