Block preview black, thumbnail not showing the block.

Ok, I've done some researching and yes I have had some block questions in the past but this one I can't seem to figure out on my own. I create the drawing and add my base point and my part attribute I then zoom to extents and save. When I view the dwg file through windows explorer the preview looks/works fine. But when I go to insert the block from my library the preview is just black. I tried the "blockicon" command but it didn't work maybe I didn't use that command correctly?

The "block"drawing as they are, are not blocks in the the actual dwg. Is this the root of the problem?
