I have been experiencing a problem with my AutoCAD window minimizing when I switch between drawings or switch to other programs. The minimizing that I have been experiencing is the window shrinking about ½” all the way around my screen, not minimizing to the taskbar.
The only fix I have found for this is to change the “TASKBAR” value from “1” to “0”. This resolves the minimizing issue but all my open drawings are now displayed on tabs up above my drawing window instead of down on the taskbar where I prefer.
Any other suggestions to fix this issue?

Hi Bruce,
What might be doing it is Aero effects in Windows 7. Try setting your desktop theme to Windows 7 Basic. Do you maybe have a theme utility of some kind installed? I could see something like that interrupting the display of programs when you ALT-Tab between them.
Check the Aero snap feature in Windows (although, changing to the Basic theme probably disables this):

Yes, switching the aero theme to basic definetly effects it. Sounds like a work around to a bug to me, not a fix. Changing the taskbar setting to '0" was another work around but not a fix.

How about just turning off the Aero Snap feature?

The only way around this issue is to set the Taskbar value to "0". I've tried your suggestions without sucsess.

I cannot seem to recreate the problem on my own computer, so this may be something unique to your system and not necessarily a bug in AutoCAD (although I cannot rule that out completely). I haven't been able to find any other reports on this from other customers though.
Unless living with the TASKBAR variable set to zero is okay, go ahead and try resetting AutoCAD to defaults and if that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling it. If reinstalling doesn't fix it, then I would suggest removing and reinstalling the .NET Framework and Visual C++. .NET especially governs most of how AutoCAD displays its windows. Here are a couple articles on reinstalling .NET and C++:

Hi Bruce,
I wanted to check in with you to see if you figured out what the problem was or if you were able to fix it, or if you decided to just stick with having TASBAR set to zero.

I tried a few different things that were suggested but I think I am going to stick with the TASKBAR setting option. I don't really like it but it is the easiest change to deal with.

I just wanted to say thanks to the OP for mentioning the variable. This is an extremely annoying behavior because it happens ALL THE TIME when switching windows.
Just to make it clear this is still a WORKAROUND.

Thank you! Setting taskbar to 0 is a nice workaround.
