VARIABLE MISSING FROM COMMAND LINE

Due to the nature of the work I'm doing, I have been setting the variable DRAWORDERCTL to 2 upon opening a drawing, then do my work, then change it back to 3 (the default) when I'm done.  For reasons I won't explain here, this set of moves saves me many, many hours of time on a large and repetitive job over hundreds of dwgs.

For weeks, this has worked fine.  Then, all of a sudden, the variable DRAWORDERCTL is simply missing from my command line options.  If I type the entire variable name, it reverts to DRAWORDER, which is completely useless.  I can back-door it by entering SYSVAR, choosing DRAWORDERCTL, and setting it to 2, but that takes more time.

QUESTION:  Does anyone know how a variable can disappear like this, and -- more importantly -- how it can be restored?  Because we have so many customizations, a re-install is totally not an option.

Thanks in advance,

This is awesome.  Now my "SYSVAR" command has disappeared too.  Defaults to SYSVARMONITOR, which is useless for what I'm doing.

This is getting downright creepy...
