Trying to display shp file text with query

Good with Civil 3D... Lousy with Map.

I've downloaded some wetlands GIS data in .shp format.

I drag and drop them into my drawing and the filled polygons show up at the right coords. When picked, the properties show what I expect of the wetlands. So far, so good.

Now I'm trying to get those  PuGHM, etc labels. text to show up on the drawings.  How?

I know it's a matter of a query, but I'm not doing too well with it. It's not terribly intuitive and the Help file's not doing me much good.

Display manager; select the layer; style; and Feature label, click add label and select the data in the Text context: dropdown

or Select Use Expression if you want an expression.

Set the font, size and attributes, etc;

Apply,

Help from the Style Editor will go to the help information you need

Save the style as a *.layer file for future use;  Right click the layer in DM and select  Save Layer.

Thanks!

Gosh, I wonder why I couldn't figure it out....

Again, not terribly intuitive. Maybe this is just how the whole GIS thing works.

Also, what kind of irks me, is that even though I do all this, I can't use that drawing as an Xref.

I have to attach the data in the drawings I want it to show up in. Right?

I do see the Data to Text button though... Tempted.

you can  MAPIMPORT the data to dwg objects with attached Object Data that is still georeferenced and save the dwg.

you can then xref that dwg and utilize all the AC functions you may be more familiar with.

you should also check out annotation for labeling.

Hardin,

In addition to Dave's excellent advice, here's a link that might help:

Once again, thank you Dave @Pointdump for promoting my video.  Very, very much appreciated.

@LyleHardin, you'll find a detailed (screenshot by sreenshot) example fo the method that @parkr4st explains on the second page of this discussion:  http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-general/import-gis-into-civil-3d-cad-dwg/m-p/5815745/...

Hope this adds to help you've already received.
