trying to connect to a WMS in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018

Using MapConnect works fine until it asks for User / PW for WMS that doesn't normally require User / PW.

Haven't tried the suggested fix here:

due to not having Admin rights and want to check this forum first before bugging our Admin.

Is there a way to bypass the User and PW prompt or does the suggested hotfix actually need to be implemented?

Here's the WMS (original and modified per ChicagoLooper) we are trying to connect to that do not ask for User / PW in QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.:

The modified link requires removing the last piece (&service=WMS) to connect in QGIS, both links were doing nothing at first but now they are giving FDO and SSL connection errors.

Is there a better link to try?

Works fine in TatukGIS and Map 3D, but I can't get it to work no way no how in QGIS.
What version of Civil 3D do you have? Do you have all updates, not just Civil 3D but also AutoCAD and Map 3D?

You haven't updated your 2018. I'd start with that. Go to your account page and click on Product Updates.

And then what happens? Screen shot please of any errors or dialogue boxes. I've never seen a WMS that didn't pop up that Log In Dialogue Box. I just hit Enter.

I don't have admin rights so I had our IT dept update the Civil 3D 2018.3.2 and it now shows current?

However opening the Accounts page still shows Update needed?

Originally there were no errors clicking "Login" or "Cancel" after trying to connect WMS, it simply did nothing... now the following errors occur every time:

Failed to connect.

Failed to open FDO connection.

Server SSL connect error.

Your Civil 3D update looks OK, but you need the AutoCAD and Map 3D updates. You will also want to apply the Hotfix you linked in Post #1.
Before adding the WMS Connection did you assign a coordinate system, like WA83-NF? And did you try changing the coordinate system of the WMS from 4326 to 3857 like @ChicagoLooper showed?

When AutoCAD is first opened I assigned CS 4601 using:

MAPCSLIBRARY

1. Type MAPCSLIBRARY in the command line.
2. The coordinate system library opens.
3. Select a coordinate system from the list to assign it to the DWG.

Same FDO & SSL errors when trying to connect to WMS.

Which of the 5 different other updates will solve "you need the AutoCAD and Map 3D updates" ?

Would it be better to install the top option Civil 3D 2023 ?  My IT dept and their admin rights are required to drive all updates (including the hotfix) so whatever is simplest is best.

I don't have 2018 anymore to check, but you should be at least here:
AutoCAD 2018.1.2
Map 3D 2018.0.1

Make the IT guys earn their money. Yes, install the Hotfix.

Is CS 4601 = EPSG:32048 NAD27/Washington North?
As a test try the NAD83 version, WA83-NF or UTM83-10.

You can connect to King County WMS using this url:

You don't need to fill in a User Name or the Password. Go directly to the Login button and click it. Next, change the Server CS Code from EPSG: 4326 to EPSG: 3857. If you don't change it, you won't be to bring in the map.

Although you can successfully make a connection to King Co. WMS (refer to post 9 of this thread), you can't connect to King Co's other service, their WMTS server, using Map3D's Data Connect Palette. The plug-in is another way to make the connection. After install, you'll have an ArcGIS tab with buttons for Contents and Add Data/Add Data by URL. See image-2.

Paste this URL to connect to King Co's WMTS:

The plug-in allows you to capture the imagery for printing purposes. You can either 'extract' a raster from your layout's viewport or from modelspace. To capture, right-click KingCo Aerial 2021 in the ESRI Contents Palette and select Extract. See image-3.

Here's a video that demonstrates how to use the plug-in to make a WMTS connection. You'll need to make the coordinate assigment twice, once for Map3D and a second time for the plug-in. If you don't, Bing Maps and the WMTS map won't align correctly.
