TIFF Size limit

Our campus digital photo is composed by 33 tiles each tile is a TIFF, about
60 MB.
I wanted a single image so I used MAP to "glue' all images. Unfortunately
MAP can not deal with any TIFF larger than 2 gigs.

Is there a fix?

Try converting the Tiff to either ECW or Mr. SID if you can. Not only will
this allow you to have a single image but you will also see vast
improvements in performance.

What software are you using to convert to Mr SID? Lizard Tech?

I used to have a program called "tifin", (Air Photo USA) that used a
registration file (tfw) to import images at the correct scale and location.
I just downloaded some sat. imagery from TerraServer today, and it says to
use the corresponding "jgw" file. How can Map use that file?

Thanks,

In Map2004 I just selected a JPG and it found the corresponding
JGW file. If that doesn't work for you use ToolPac > Image >
Insert World Rasters (recent update to support rotated rasters).

We primarily use the ECW format and not Mr. SID because we have ER Mapper.
To make SID files you have to us Lizard Tech's software since they hold the
patents on that file type. ESRI use to sell an extension for Mr. SID but
Lizard Tech has now taken over that as well.

As to the jgw file, that is just a world file for a georeferenced jpeg. It
is the same as a tfw for a georeferenced tiff. Map uses these files to
insert images in their correct geospatial location including rotation and
scale. I believe Terry explained how to do that.

That didn't seem to work for me. The "jgw" file has the same name as the
image, and is in the same directory. This file came from Terraserver and is
a GlobeXplorer sat. image. The "jgw" file looks like this...

0.00017315218
0.00000000000
0.00000000000
-0.00017315218
-108.11990942214
39.46990942214

My drawing is set up in Lat-Longs. The coordinates at the end of the file
are in the right area, but what are the other numbers. Is this the standard
format?

Thanks,

Is the image a .JPG file?

This is the long/lat, should hit in your area.

The coordinate is close... maybe I'm missing something basic... I'm just
using the "image" command. Is there something else? The file is a JPG
file.

My fault. I was using the wrong command "Image" should have been
"MAPIINSERT"

Thanks for the info though... too bad that typing "tfw" or "jgw" doesn't
trigger any help items in Map.

Try using the Image insert from the Map menu. It will recognize the world
files for your georeferenced images. The normal AutoCAD image command does
not do this.
