Problem with .MDB files on Win x64 and MAP 201X x64

Hello

I imagine that I am very very tired TODAY !

Because I can't reproduce good old things (as on old 32 bits PCs) with .MDB and my ACAD MAP 201X (2016/2015/etc) 64 bits on Win Seven Pro x64

On my multiple x64 PCs, I have Office 2010 x64 + Access 2010 x64 ... or Office 2010 x64 + Access DataBase Engine x64 ...

1) I try to drag and drop directly the .MDB file into the Map Workspace (As I can on 32 bits Windows and 32 bits MAP 201X) : impossible !

2) I try to define an UDL and I can't !

3) Of course, I can create a Windows ODBC x64 source and use it with ODBC FDO x64 driver ...

4) BUT I want to use OLD technics with the Map Workspace : UDLs, Link templates, Database linking with Link templates, etc ...

Please what is wrong ??

Thanks in advance, Regards, Patrice

Hi,

>> (As I can on 32 bits Windows and 32 bits MAP 201X) : impossible !

Wow, never did it that way, so didn't know it was working ... and sorry, can't get it to work now (Map 3D 2016 x64)

>> Of course, I can create a Windows ODBC x64 source and use it with ODBC FDO x64 driver ...

No, I'm not creating ODBC objects on the workstation, because when you try to open that file on another workstation you'll have to define it again or the data would not show up. And with every project and every dataset you would have to hold a long list of ODBC connections ... not my way as this does not look like a good structure.

What I'm doing instead is to define a connection using connection string in Map 3D (sorry for German screenshot), that gives me the option to transfer the drawing and as long as the MDB is found (like on a network drive) all would work well ... without doing ODBC configuration to your Windows.

A connection string could look like that:

Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb)};DBQ=D:\WORK_X\YYY\OoCObjects.mdb

I know it's not just drag and drop, but was working well for me for a long time now.

Hello Alfred

1) Thanks for your help !

2) With ODBC FDO Drivers, I haven't any REAL problems ! ... on my Windows PC x64 and MAP 201X x64 ...

3) On my x64 Windows PC and MAP 201X x64 ...I would like to know if :

- May I drag and drop MDB files directly into the MAP Workspace (2nd vertical Tab - NOT the 1st FDO Tab)

- Into the 2nd vertical Tab, I can't create any valid UDL so I can't create a Link Template

The SAME things are done EASILY on x86 Windows PC and MAP 201X x86 since about MAP 2000 !!

So maybe this week, I am stupid or very tired !

Do I need a complete MS-Access 2010/2013 x64 installed OR a FREE MS-Access DataBase Engine 2010 X64 ?

I have even tested on Win Seven Pro x64 + Complete MS-Office 2010 x64 WITH MS-Access x64 : no way !

Thanks in advance, Regards, Patrice

Hi Pat,

since the 64 bit version it is not possible to drag and drop the MDB to AutoCAD Map.

The connection should be done manually.

  • Please try to create the DNS in operating system first.
  • In AutoCAD Map --> Task Pane --> Map Explorer --> Data Sources --> right Mouse button - -->configure
  • Configure Data Source  --> choose Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Drivers --> Choose data source name from drop down list
  • Back in Task Pane --> Map Explorer --> Data Sources --> Attach

Please let mem know if that work for you or if you need further help.

Regards

Brigitte

Hi,

Well, this is working for me (having 64bit MS-Office installed), but that is not an FDO connection!

I would say yes, having Windows 8.1 x64, AutoCAD Map 3D 2016 (x64) as well as Office 2013 x64 installed.

I'm sorry not to have any other environment available at the moment for testing that without preinstalled Office.

This is what I get after Drag & Drop of the MDB-file (attached, so you can test it with that file ... to verify that it does not depend on any MDB-version or index or any structural needs).

Hi,

I've tested on Windows 7 x64, and AccessRuntime 2010x64 ( + Office 2007 32bit)

On MAP 2012, 2014 and 2016, result is the same => UDL is created by drag&drop but impossible to connect.

All OS/software are in french langage.

Few years ago it has worked, so I think that some Office Update break this functionnality.

Hi all,

your are right, it should work with drag & drop, tested on another PC it work for me too.

Comparing the Mircosoft Drivers it seems to be related to the versions of Access Drivers.

Having Access driver 12 and 15 with OLE DB Driver 12 is not working per drag % drop.

This work only with configuration by hand:

ODBC_no_connection.PNG

In operating system we have Access driver 14 in that case, all installed with Office:

DNS_14.PNG

On the working PC we have Access driver 12 and 15 and OLEDB service 11:

ODBC_work.PNG

In operating system we have Access driver 15:

DNS_15.PNG

Seams that the different driver versions cause the issue.

I will do some further tests, check with Microsoft and inform as soon as clarified.

In the meantime please add the DB by hand.

Regards

Brigitte

Hi Pat,

you can test this also with new connection in AutoCAD Map choosing the Office 15 Access driver.

Do we get the following error iin your environment?

odbc error.PNG

Hi Pat,

installing AccessRuntime_en-us_x64.exe from Microsoft solve the issue in my environment.

Please let me know if that help in your environment too.
