Has anyone seen a list of the new features for Map3D 2014?

Is there anything new and exciting in there and Is it worth looking into?

Hopefully no more of that industry modeler blah.

Hi,

>> Has anyone seen a list of the new features for Map3D 2014?

Besides of the features from plain AutoCAD 2014? Have not seen more than that >>>click<<< ;(

Sorry not to have more, I also would like to have more info in the help than just a few words, but not any links to new commands, new options, new sysvars, no, nothing .... I would like to see something like >>>this for Civil3D<<<.

This blog post covers new features for Civil 3D: http://beingcivil.typepad.com/my_weblog/2013/03/autocad-civil-3d-2014-new-feature-.html

As for Map, once it's installed, there's a "What's New" link under Help: http://screencast.com/t/iQAsc5q451

Here's the text you find there:

This release of AutoCAD Map 3D includes customer focused enhancements across all AutoCAD Map 3D, including:
Industry models and utility specific capabilities
Extract and merge data between AutoCAD Map 3D and AutoCAD Utility Design
Import data from geospatial features and DWG features into industry models
Export to AutoCAD capabilities
Expanded and enhanced coordinate system library and engine
Many more enhancements with focus on performance and customer experience
This release of AutoCAD Map 3D also includes cloud integration features, including:
Support for A360 storage, synchronization, and access anywhere
Live access to commercial basemap service for aerial and road data (in conjuction with AutoCAD)

As for the "industry modeler blah", it's gone away, replaced by InfraWorks (if you meant Infrastructure Modeler 🙂 If you meant industry models, the former Topobase functionality is still in Map 3D ).  The new Roads and Highway functionality there is quite interesting: http://www.autodesk.com/products/autodesk-infraworks/overview and a bit about vertical optimization: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwOIkETDS3M&noredirect=1

Hello from France

SORRY but for me, MAP 2014 is a "very minor" Release !

But the worldwide record (for AutoCAD MAP) in term of "NO New Features" was MAP 2004

which was ONLY a recompilation of MAP R6 (based on ACAD 2002) ...

In France maybe 0.1% (maximum) of MAP users have looked  at Industry Models (ex TopoBase)

and maybe 0.05% (maximum) are really using Industry Models !

So I hope that you have much more (in other countries) users of Industry Models ?

Bye, Pat (Old User of ADE module on ACAD R12 then User of MAP R1 to MAP 2014)

Hi Nate,

first thank you for your reply!

My problem with that readme is: that are words from marketing, but not for technicians, so what commands/options are new or better? You mentioned the same link like I had for Civil3D ==> there you see how I guess customers want to have a "what's new" section: a list what is done plus links to the new commands (or commands with new options) to be able to try the new features and learn them!

Map3D says something like "Export to AutoCAD capabilities" ... sorry, that "Export to AutoCAD" was already available before, what is new? The readme from Map3D does tell me that.

I hope it's clear what I mean, I don't think that the help-file or the readme (what's new) is read by marketing people 😉

Hi,

does not handle "what's new in Map3D 2014" ... but at least the same happend now for 2015.

>>>that link<<< points again to marketing text, not any sysvar, not any single command is listed that is new or modified.

WHERE DO I GET TECHNICAL INFO ABOUT WHAT'S NEW ? Commands, sysvar's, details, not just "improved performance" or "simplified steps".

To be honest, besides of the providers for current db-server my feeling is that nothing is new in Map3D, just modules like ReCap (not really internal part of Map3D) or the basic technology of AutoCAD (so also not really Map3D-technology) ... including the (bad) color-scheme, called now "modern interface" (whereas I call it bad readability).

Sorry to rant here, but I hate marketing text in (technical) manuals, especially the "what's new"-section that tells us nothing (technical) about "what's really new".

What do I expect? Something like that (>>>in help for AutoCAD<<<😞

I agree, what is new and where is the tech help on it. The only thing I see worth using is the Geomap tools where you can now save the bing image to the dwg and plot it.

Hi Murph,

>> The only thing I see worth using is the Geomap tools where you can now save the bing image to the dwg and plot it.

And that is a feature of AutoCAD, not a Map-specific one.

Correct, which means it may or may not be coordinate correct.

Hello from France

As I said "MAP 3D 2014 is not a very minor Release" !

For me this means : MAP 2014  AND MAP 2015 are a "minor release ...

With only some bugs/defects (not all unfortunately) corrected and a few minor enhancements in term of DB Driver, FDO drivers, etc ...

My current MAP 201X User French manuel is in fact a MAP 2012 Manuel plus 3 small sections relative to the few enhancements of MAP 2013 ...

****  Suggestions  ****

Why Autodesk doesn't improve the OD Management (a Grid view for example : select, export, etc) ?

Why Autodesk doesn't correct some bugs of the FDO engine ?

Why Autodesk doesn't improve MAPIMPORT/MAPEXPORT ?

etc

I find it funny that almost a year after this post, even with the next release, people are still asking the same questions. But not me. I just rolled out an Esri solution and will not look back.

Good luck to you all.
