MAPTRIM does not trim some entities

Hello,

Using AutoCAD Map 3d 2014 (could be 2015) I want to trim the entities of a drawing based on a contour (the contour is a closed poliline in a locked layer).

All seems to be OK, but there are some entities that are not correctly trimmed or are entirelly removed (having a part inside the contour.

In the attached drawing is a sample and those are my steps:

  1. Run MAPTRIM
  2. Select contour (the rectangle)
  3. Let the automatic selection (it should trim the green line)
  4. Trim entities outside the contour
  5. Ignore untrimmed objects

Once the command finishes, remains part of the green line outside the contour... Can anyone tell me why?

As I can see, the TRIM and EXTRIM commands trim the line perfectly, but as I have to use Object Data, I cannot use them.

Thanks for your help in advance!

But when you restart MAPTRIM - trimmed.

Hello АлексЮстасу,

You are correct but I have some other cases where MAPTRIM does not trim the entity even if it is run many times and also I have other cases where the command deletes segments that are inside (yes, inside) the area.

So thanks, but I'm sorry, this solution is not valid for me.

Thanks anyway for your effort!

as an alternative

arbitrarily set Coordinate System to LL84 as a map should have a CS.  Set the CS for your project area.

created two sdf files from your data; attached

using map feature split the data can be divided along any of the boundaries in the map.  Select the data in the data table to view this.

using queries any portion of the data can be displayed or hidden

using MAPGISOVERLAY the data can be queried in several ways

This gives far grater flexibility with the data IMHO

Hi,

Because some points of your polyline to trim are exactly on the rectangle (same Y coordinate), MAPTRIM can't trim in only 1 pass.

If you move your rectangle in Y direction of 0.0001m, MAPTRIM works fine.

Hello Olivier,

The problem is that there are hundreds of lines in the drawing so moving the rectangle could solve this particular line, but I think it could make other line to stay untrimmed.

If your suggestion works, I think I will check all the vertex of the lines to move the ones that are over the rectangle (more work, but this way I will be sure that this does not happen again.

I will be back to tell you what I do at the end.

Thanks!!!

Hello parkr4st,

The problem is that I would have to do this for drawings with hundreds of entities and for a number of boundaries between 10 and 50 so I think this is not a good solution for me (I do not have any doubt on it's validity, but it is too complicated for the work that I have to do).

Thanks a lot for helping me!

add all the boundaries to trim with to the proper sdf and the process can do all at once.
