Map3D Logon to SQL Server

Just installed a brand new Map3D 2015 environment with a SQL Server 2016 database (Windows Authentication only). I have a MAPSYS and MAP3D database in SQL Server Management Studio.

When I open the Map3D client --> select "Open Project" --> Select "MS SQL Server" and "Windows Authentication" I cannot logon. I have setup my Active Directory user in SQL Server and gave it the "public" role on the MAPSYS and MAP3D databases. When I logon to the client I receive the following message...

"The MAPSYS User has no enterprise industry model Structure. Please check your credential settings."

I can't find any useful information on how to configure Map3D so that I can use windows logons.

the word "Mapsys" lead me to the idea that you like to work with AutoCAD Map 3D Industrie Models.

The Mapsys user in SQL DB is not the user containing the data model - it is the system user for all Industry Models. 

Try the following:

• I assume that the Mapsys user in SQL Server has been created with Autodesk Industry Model Setup

• Open Infrastructure Administrator and login to SQL Server (Windows Authentication, use MAPSYS and Servername which is SQLServer 2014 in my environment)

• In Administrator create Industry Model project
• Open or create Industry Model (for the beginning might be the best to choose one of the available Modules)

• Open AutoCAD Map 3D with workspace set to "Maintenance workspace"
• Open Project (_mapdbconnect)
• Connect same way as done in Administrator (screenshot above) and choose workspace

For your information:  SQL Server 2016 hasn't been available to the time we release AutoCAD Map 3D 2015, therefore it is not tested (not officially supported) for this release. But from my experience it should work.

Thanks Brigitte for the reply. Your assumption is correct I am using the Industry Model - Electric NA and the MAPSYS was created with the Industry Model Setup. I am used to setting this up in Oracle and this is my first attempt with SQL Server. 

I can get to the point of logging in to Map3D by using the default Administrator account as you have demonstrated. What I am having trouble with is creating a new user and having it logon with windows integrated authentication. I know how to create users in Infrastructure Administrator, but what needs to be done (if anything) on the SQL Server side so that windows integrated authentication (single sign-on) works for a regular user?

lead to the assumption that there is no user document.

What is the issue in Administrator to create new user?

If login with Administrator failed the same as in Map and the SQL Server is on different PC the issue might be related to ports which have to be opened for SQL Server.

The Microsoft document show how to open the ports on SQL Server PC.

If I create a new user in Administrator what do I need to do (if anything) in SQL Server Studio? I am thinking I would need to create a user there as well for integrated security?

Hi @Anonymous,
there is nothing to do in SQL Server Studio. Create Masys, open Administrator, create workspace and new user document. Check that ports for SQL Server are open.
In general the same steps as you do for Oracle.
Are you able to login in Administrator?

Yes I can logon as Administrator. Ports are not an issue. Can you explain how Windows Integrated Authentication is supposed to work with SQL Server? I am thinking this means users do not have to enter their password. This is typically how this works, but maybe it is different in Map3d? If I change my windows password how does that impact Map3D passwords?

Hi @Anonymous,

yes, you are correct - it work the same way in AutoCAD Map and Administrator with Windows Authentication.

Please be aware that you have to create own MapSYS for SQL Server, you can't use the one created for Oracle.

If you have a screenshot of Administrator login might help me to get the point.

The setting in SQL Server Manager has to enable Windows Authentication.

Thanks for the video. Everything in the video I can do. I need to know what I need to do (if anything) to create a NEW user in IA inorder to use Single Sign on with SQL Server. All the instructions and videos talk about the default Administrator account. No one uses that account. Users have their individual accounts.

How do I setup a user so that windows integrated security is used and users do not have to type in their username/password to logon to Map?

Refresh my memory...are you all on Map 3D 2015? Or are there newer versions in the company?

I'm assuming you've done this, but did you check the industry model setup to ensure that all versions are the same? Not sure if that would throw things off since the user names should all remain the same...
