Map 2008 / Topobase, WSCommCntr1.exe and InfoCenter

Someone here who remembers the "good ooooold times"?

Approx. 10 years ago there were some troubles with crashes, caused by WSCommCntr1.exe (or 2 or 3 ...) which is the exe for the "InfoCenter". The solution was to switch off the Infocenter - see the links here from Manusoft / Owen Wengerd.

AutoCAD 2008 Slow Startup Fix

So my question is:

Are there some unwanted side-effects to expect when disabling the Infocenter?

Some problems with special Topobase and/or Map features?

Infocenter is/was bloatware: no one ever needed it on.
