Legend is hidden on my layout, how to fix?

Hello!

I have a layout with a single Viewport and a legend connected to it. The legend exists, is editable, and individual cells can be edited, but the legend as a whole is not selectable and does not appear.

See legend toolbar drop-down on the right side:

Double-clicked on a random cell to show that it does exist:

I have tried sending the Title Block to the back of the display order, and similarly bringing the viewport to the top. I also confirmed that the Legend Transparency is set to 0.

Totally stumped as to what the issue is! Thank you in advance for the help / advice!

Hi @smateNWGBA

Thanks for uploading those screenshots. Would it be possible to upload one more? Select the legend then take a screenshot of both the legend and the properties palette. The info in the properties palette will help to evaluate your issues.

Certainly! Is this more helpful?

Please select the legend and try again.

The properties palette indicates ‘No Selection’ so no info related to the legend is displayed.

Select the legend, then with the legend still selected, take the screenshot of the properties palette.

Thats part of the issue, the legend can't be selected. I can open the individual cells, but the full legend itself will not be selected either as individual cells or as a whole. The wonderful green box yields no results when dragged over that area, other than the Title Block.

Select the ENTIRE legend using a window drawn by your mouse.

The point to all this is NOT to evaluate a single cell within the table. The goal is to evaluate the LEGEND or the Table since the legend is considered a table entity.

You should also upload a second screenshot

of the Map Task Pane. To capture a screenshot of the Map

Task Pane do this:

  1. Type MAPWSPACE on command line.
  2. Go to command line and select ON=>Enter.

Regarding selecting the entire legend - That does not seem to be possible and is what I was attempting to show with the big green selection box (message #5 in this thread). The only way to prove that a legend exists in any capacity that the cells can be selected, but the table as a whole can not.

As for the Task Pane / Display Manager, each Layer has a Entity Style added and color / linetype / line width set.

This isn’t what you want to hear but it doesn’t look like you have not created the legend properly.

It would be helpful to see your step-by-step legend method in a video so the forum can evaluate your procedure. A legend that’s not created properly is consistent with not being able to select it.

Insisting it is actually created and trying fix a legend that doesn’t exist is…….(fill in the blank).

Oh you will get no arguments from me that its not created properly, hence the forum posting haha. I am happy to document a recreation of the process, will see if I can get to that this afternoon. I do appreciate your help with this. If not today I will provide on Monday.
