Insert image from SharePoint does not display

When attempting to insert an image that is stored on SharePoint on-premises 2016, the dialog seems to search forever and does not come back with the possibility to select. I am using a link (add network address) that points to the WebDAV connection of the SharePoint library (see link below).

The dialog flickers, the display in the Info section keeps changing, the Type shows as Unknown.

Any pointers on how this can be resolved would be appreciated

What if the extension of your image?

As an experiment, put the image on your Desktop. Are you able to connect when the image is moved from share point to you your Desktop. What about moving the image from sharepoint to your firm's local server? (Sharepoint will make you jump through hoops to get to a file. AutoCAD doesn't jump through hoops.)

Extension is .png. Inserting images from Deskopt or Fileshare works. We want to move to SharePoint and are trying to solve these problems.
