How to open Map instead of Civil 3D?

Hi,

welcome @forums.autodesk.com!

Can you please describe more detailed what you miss? Because to that question "How to open Map instead of Civil 3D?" my first answer would be: please use the icon for Map 3D instead of that from Civil 3D.

The first info we need: do you have both products installed or do you have Infrastructure Design Suite installed or what do you have installed and what options do you see to start in the Autodesk group within the Windows start menu?

If you have just Civil 3D then please recognize that Map 3D is part of Civil 3D, so the functionality of Map 3D (most of it) is avaiable in Civil 3D, maybe the only thing you miss is to change the workspace to a Map 3D one?

I've got Infrastructure 2015 installed and I can't open C3D. I ran Map for the first time, and now that is all that is opening, regardless of which desktop icon i use to launch the program. Any advice?

thanks, david

look here      http://www.autodesk.com/suites/infrastructure-design-suite/included-software

if you have standard you don't have C3D

right click your icons on the desktop, properties and look to see what software is activated by the icons in the target field

  i.e 15\acad.exe"  /product MAP /language "en-US"

you can change the targets.

I have had this problem over and over for years. I am running Civil 3D 2008
on an XP Pro OS so my solution may not suit you. My latest solution is:

1. Go to the START menu

2. Go to the list of ?All Programs?

3. Go to ?Autodesk?

4. Go to ?Autocad Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008?

5. It should now show a list of all the applications available to open under
?Autocad?

6. On my machine it shows ?Autocad Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008? as
one of the applications and it also shows ?Autocad Land Companion Enabled
Map 2008?

If I click on the ?Autocad Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008? it opens
the Civil 3D version of AUTOCAD.

If I click on the ?Autocad Land Companion Enabled Map 2008? it opens the Map
version of AUTOCAD.

7. Once I am in either of the programs I ?open? a specific dwg and that
brings back all of my customized menu bars and toolbars and icons which I
use a lot.

I use Map for drafting since you can open multiple dwgs simultaneously and
can copy/paste between dwgs. Very helpful to me.

I use Civil 3D for engineering purposes like building TINS, doing earthwork,
alignments/profiles, etc.

I hope this is helpful to you, I know 2008 is pass? but I am almost retired
and don?t want to upgrade since 2008 serves me well.

Just take 5 and relax, as the other Dave replied you do have more than the standard IDS installed right? If you log in to accounts.autodesk.com it should show what version/software you have on the management page.

Thanks everyone. I have infrastructure suite premium, C3D is part of the package. I had a shortcut as developed by our DOT in order to point to their standards, etc. I modified it to point at C3D:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\\AecBase.dbx" /p "<<C3D_Imperial>>" /product "C3D" "C:\WisDOT\Stnd\c3d2014\Appdata\Profiles\wisdot2014.arg" /nologo

It works fine now. The way it was:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\\AecBase.dbx" "C:\WisDOT\Stnd\c3d2014\Appdata\Profiles\wisdot2014.arg" /nologo

seemed to open whatever product I had opened last (Map, C3D, etc.)

Murph, no time for 5. We are exploring Autodesk Map here. Right now our main GIS platform is ESRI. our CAD based mapping platform is Bentley Map, which, along with mstn, falls far short of our expectations. We should hire you to come up and get us going. I acquired skills, in part from your advice, but it's been 3 years since I used it in production, relearning is slow at times.
