How to lock a dimension in place.

I'm editing text within the contents of dimension lines (dim line), but the dim line itself moves away from the insertion coordinates after I enter in the new text. I believe this might be a universal to the default dim line properties. I don't know if I can "lock" the dim line in place so that the location won't move and have to be adjusted back into place.

My work example:

The problem occurs after manually typing in stationing measurements to the dim line callout. As soon as I type the ENTER key the dim line will move away from to the insertion coordinates, keeping the dimension values, but  I have to drag the dim line back to the  original location, and manually measure to verify the stationing information is correct again.

Can I lock a dimension line in place so that it won't move after insertion? I don't really know a better way to input stationing measurements in a dimension. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you, my explanation in two pictures this time. I apologize for the confusion @Pointdump. I realize my original post was confusing. Two steps is all I needed.

First I create a dimension line. See 48' dime to the right side.

Second, I drag the measurement text outside the the boundary of the arrows. At that point the dimension line offsets automatically relative to the original placement (see picture below).

The distance to the station shifts from it's original static placement, which makes anchoring the dim line to the stationing very difficult any time you update the text.

How can I lock the dim line so it no longer shifts when moving text outside the dimension? Thank you.

Go to your Dim Style=>Modify button=>Fit Tab=>Text Placement=>Over Dimension line, with leader (refer to image below).
