How do I load Autocad Map 3D through Autocad so its just like the original app?

Hi, I'm very inexperienced in this program. My university work requires me to use AUTOCAD MAP 3D but apparently its included in AUTOCAD as a toolset. I have looked everywhere and I can't find anything that's not hieroglyphs to me. On my Uni computers it is a whole separate app with different ribbons which I need to be the same as I need to follow along to a video tutorial. Any help in loading this up through AUTOCAD 2024 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @N1148508

Try clicking the WORKSPACE settings dropdown--the dropdown is located in the quick access menu--upper left corner at the very top of your monitor and has a 'GEAR' icon and a 'down' arrow. In the dropdown menu, what are the options? Can you upload a screen shot of the dropdown?

Planning and Analysis?

Hi again, I think I may have found the solution! I was under the assumption that these toolsets come pre installed with AUTOCAD. Turns out they are separate programs that you choose to download from your account settings. I'm installing it now so I will let you know how it goes. Thank you for your time.

<<,,,apparently its included in AUTOCAD as a toolset...>>

So you are running plain vanilla AutoCAD. Did you download and install the Map3D >>Toolset?<<

---------------------------------------------------------

Alternatively, you may download the Student version of AutoCAD Civil 3D >>HERE<<. Then scroll down to Civil 3D (Refer to image below.) If you are currently enrolled at a qualifying education institution you can download the student version using a valid student email address.

Then, after installation has been completed, open C3D and change the workspace from Civil3D to Planning and Analysis. This workspace has all the Map3D tools so your Ribbon will be consistent with the Ribbon shown in your text book.

How It Works

First there's plain vanilla AutoCAD. Then there's Map3D which is built on top of AutoCAD plain vanilla. Next, there's Civil3D which is built on top of Map3D.

M3D contains not only Map3D tools, it includes plain vanilla tools too.

C3D contains not  only Civil3D tools, it includes Map3D tools too.

Git 'ER Done

I don't think there's a 'student version' of Map3D. There is, however, a downloadable student version of Civil3D. If your goal is to complete your assignments using Map3D, I'd suggest you download the Educational version of Civil3D and forget, really forget, all that mumbo jumbo stuff regarding Map3D-Toolset-for-plain-vanilla-Acad.

Hi, thank you for the in depth reply. I have successfully downloaded Map 3D. Turns out I was just being foolish and not reading as much as I said I was in my original post. The link you have given me is a website that I kept going back to when trying to figure this out. I do have an educational account which is why I am able to download these products. However, clicking on free trial on said page and following the instructions leads me to the educational page. This is why I was so confused. As seen, there is no Map 3D page, therefore, I just assumed Map 3D was included in vanilla AUTOCAD. As you can see it says "includes access to...Map3D....".

What I had to do was go to my account settings, then custom install and download this program separately

Unfortunately, I haven't used Civil 3D in my university and I have to follow along to a video which uses Map3D, so I thought it may be easier to use the same program in the video as to avoid a headache of searching for the same options.

Anyway, I appreciate your time and help. Thank you very much, have a good night 🙂
